Key Skills
Job Description
As a Senior Product Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the Product Support department by developing, managing, commissioning, and continuously improving IHC Systems products, both software and hardware. Your primary focus will be on the DP/DT system, developed by IHC Systems. The DP/DT system automatically controls a vessel’s actuators, propellers, thrusters, rudders, and power management system to ensure optimal dynamic positioning performance. Its behavior is based on data from environmental sensors, adaptive hydro-mechanical models, and advanced filtering techniques. In this senior role, you will take responsibility for maintaining and further developing the DP/DT product, and for leading its implementation onboard vessels, typically within multidisciplinary project teams. You will define, coordinate, and validate interfaces with other systems such as propulsion and power management, ensuring system-level consistency and reliability. In addition to the DP/DT system, you will contribute to automation products related to dredging equipment, simulators, and offshore applications. You will support configuration, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities, and act as a technical reference for complex software-related issues. You will work closely with colleagues from Product Support, Engineering, Sales, and Service departments, and you will proactively advise stakeholders on technical solutions and product improvements. The product knowledge and operational experience you acquire will be transferred to end users and internal stakeholders through training, documentation, and on-the-job support. For commissioning activities and the resolution of complex technical issues onboard customer vessels, you will travel internationally several times per year. As a senior engineer, you are expected to operate independently in these environments and support less experienced colleagues when required. The Product Support department consists of a team of experienced professionals with in-depth product knowledge who actively collaborate and share expertise. Due to increasing project complexity and workload, the team is looking to strengthen its capabilities with a senior-level engineer. Your Profile To qualify for the position of Senior Product Engineer, you meet the following requirements: A completed higher vocational or university-level technical education At least 3–5 years of relevant experience in a similar role, preferably within marine, offshore, or industrial automation environments Proven experience with measurement and control systems, preferably including complex software-based control systems Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently on complex technical issues A customer-oriented and proactive mindset Excellent communication skills in both English and Dutch, at both technical and professional levels Willingness and ability to travel internationally Experience with requirements engineering, testing, and commissioning activities (strongly preferred) Affinity with (software) product management and lifecycle thinking Only candidates with a valid EU work visa will be considered. Please note: For this position, we only consider candidates who are currently residing in the Netherlands and are able to work on-site at our Kinderdijk location. Relocation support is not available for this position. What we offer A gross monthly salary between €4,080 and €5,930, plus 8% holiday allowance.
