PURPOSE OF THE JOB To supervise the safe and cost-effective execution of all maintenance and/ or modifications of plant, equipment & facilities and shutdown work ensuring high-quality workmanship of artisans and contractors. Lead day-to-day execution of maintenance activities to ensure reliability, safe maintenance execution and minimal production downtime, while managing and developing the instrumentation maintenance team. Job Responsibilities SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT, RISK, QUALITY AND COMMUNITY Identify and assess level of continuous risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc. Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.) Ensure SHEQ compliance within the Team through effective use of the Toolbox Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status PEOPLE Ensure an enabling climate/culture Maintain labour stability by minimising labour turnover Labour complement in line with budget Manage performance against set targets and competencies Ensure IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly) Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.) Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels Conduct recruitment interviews CUSTOMERS Ensure Customer Satisfaction Work closely with production teams, improve instrumentation reliability to aid in operational efficiency and reliable process control BUSINESS PROCESSES Unplanned Interventions Prioritise breakdowns and authorize work Arrange resources Assess risks related to unplanned jobs Manage resources in terms of unplanned work Verify complete administration of unplanned work Maintenance Support Assist with reviewing of task lists Provide resource & equipment information for plan review Solve Problems And Implement Solutions Initiate root cause failure analysis Provide feedback on pro-active identification of problem to originator Record issues surrounding problems Assure sustainability of solutions Schedule Preparation Assess notification details and scope of work to ensure the scope of work meets the required standard Review Bill of Quantities Prioritise Jobs / Forward Workload Provide Resource Availability to the Maintenance Practitioner (Planning) Execute planned work as per schedule and ensure correct close-out on SAP Carry out shutdown preparation (tools, spares and resources) Work Execution Reallocate resources and postpone jobs if necessary Manage materials if work order is postponed Ensure quality of work completed Check confirmations Technically complete works orders on a regular basis SAP PM and SAP HR System work Work Analysis Monitor and ensure strict adherence to maintenance work management principles (percent planned work, adherence to schedule, number of breakdowns, number of proactive requests) to obtain maximum plant availability at minimum maintenance cost per unit produced Contractor Management Optimise manning plan through the use internal or contractor artisans for unplanned work Create SES for unplanned work Manage contractor activities on site Physically accept and document acceptance of work Verify quantities involved in contractor work Record contractor non-conformance Sign invoice, timesheet or pro-forma (Complete SES) Rotables Management Decide whether item can be repaired based on initial visual inspection Complete all fields on the "Damage" tag on the return item to Rotables store TECO original PM01 order and complete notification SHAREHOLDER VALUE Monitor and control section costs Minimum Qualification And Experience N6 certificate in Electrical Engineering, Instrument Engineering or Instrumentation (external candidates) Completed N4 certificate in Electrical Engineering, Instrument Engineering or Instrumentation (internal candidates) 4 years’ relevant experience, preferably 1 years’ supervisory experience ADVANTAGEOUS National Diploma Electrical Engineering Light Current Relevant Trade Certificate Supervisory Development Training Certificate Proficient in Siemens PCS7 (PLC/ WINCC/ NetPro) systems and SCADA systems Proficient in AS/ OS networking and Profi-Bus networking Experience in Siemens motor management and control Previous Furnace/smelter experience (advantageous) Behavioural Competencies Required Safety Leadership Innovation Coordinate and Control Results Orientation Operational Problem Solving & Decision Making Aligning Performance for Success Work Standards Interpersonal Relationships Communication Managing Conflict Flexibility Team Supervision Business Understanding Systems WORKPLACE COMPETENCIES: Microsoft Programs Samancor Chrome Systems (IMS, EBMS, Chromedoc, MES, Coupa, SAP) Siemens PCS7 (PLC/ WINCC) Job Skills Practical experience with belt scales, weighing systems and density measurement equipment. Ability to identify critical instrumentation, automation and network equipment, and establish appropriate critical-spares requirements Proficient in Microsoft Office and working knowledge of SAP Plant Maintenance (SAP PM) or equivalent maintenance management systems Ability to perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using methods such as 5-Why and cause-and-effect analysis Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, control schematics, instrument datasheets, network architecture drawings and functional descriptions Ability to support automation system commissioning, testing, troubleshooting and plant start-up activities Knowledge PLC’s and SCADA Proficient in Siemens PCS7 Control systems Siemens motor management and control (Simocode / Micromaster drives) Ability to perform PCS 7 system diagnostics, basic configuration, fault-finding and maintenance of existing automation systems Sound knowledge of industrial instrumentation, including measurement, calibration, configuration, commissioning and fault-finding Sound knowledge of weighbridge operations, fault-finding and maintenance principles Sound knowledge of PROFINET, PROFIBUS, Industrial Ethernet and other industrial communication protocols Sound understanding of OT and IT network architecture, including network segmentation and basic cybersecurity principles Working knowledge of IP-based camera systems, including basic network configuration and fault-finding Sound understanding of preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance principles and maintenance work management Working knowledge of Management of Change (MOC), backup/change control and automation system documentation requirements Working Conditions Overtime Perform standby Carry legal appointment Samancor Chrome shall apply the Employment Equity Principles as set out in the Company's Employment Equity Policy. Core Responsibilities

Lead and develop the maintenance team, coordinate planned and unplanned work and contractors, manage risks and costs, and ensure work is properly documented and completed in SAP.

Requirements

Candidates need an N6 certificate in electrical engineering, instrument engineering, or instrumentation for external applicants, or a completed N4 certificate in those fields for internal applicants, plus four years of relevant experience; one year of supervisory experience is preferred. The role also calls for instrumentation and automation expertise, including Siemens PCS 7, PLC and SCADA systems, industrial networks, maintenance management, and root cause analysis; a relevant diploma, trade certificate, and supervisory training are advantageous.
