About the Role Sparta, the Dutch bicycle brand founded in 1917, is entering a new chapter with TENWAYS. We are looking for an experienced Product / Industrial Designer based in Amsterdam to own the exterior design of urban and commuter e-bikes, helping define a clean, modern and recognisable look that respects Sparta’s heritage. You will bring deep knowledge of European riders and the European market, and work closely with our product development center to turn that insight into well-resolved, manufacturable designs. What You'll Do Lead the overall styling, proportion and stance, line and surface, and detail definition for the Sparta city commuter lineup, developing reusable family design features (frame silhouettes, joint treatments, lamp/reflector integration, “clean look” of cable routing). Own the exterior design of selected components: displays, lamps, fenders, racks, guards, charging port covers, etc. Ensure appearance consistency and brand recognition; establish design specifications. Bring European user insight (consumption habits, market demand) into the design direction. Build and maintain Sparta’s CMF strategy: color system, surface finishes and decal/branding system. Establish CMF standards (color chips, texture, gloss, etc.). Own the design process from concept, sketch, 3D and rendering to prototype, managing key milestones (concept freeze, Class-A surface freeze). Work with the product development center’s structural and electronics teams on packaging, cable routing, waterproofing, heat dissipation, tolerances and serviceability. Drive assembly consistency and tactile details (parting lines, chamfers, button feel). Organize design reviews and define “hold design points” and “acceptable compromises.” Participate in sample reviews and ensure design intent is realized. Coordinate with regulatory teams to ensure compliance in EU / UK (lamps, reflectors, markings, racks). Maintain design standards, deliverables lists and version management for cross-timezone collaboration. What You Bring Bachelor’s degree or above in Industrial Design, Transportation Design, Product Design or a related field. 5+ years of industrial design experience; 2+ products delivered to mass production. Experience in e-bikes, bicycles, two-wheelers or consumer hardware; solid understanding of frames, assembly, tolerances and surface finishing. Strong knowledge of EU user consumption habits and market demand. Strong aesthetic and form-giving skills; able to express the “clean, restrained, timeless” commuter aesthetic. Strong communication skills; able to hold key design points within engineering, cost and schedule constraints. Willingness to travel regularly to China. Core Responsibilities
Lead exterior styling and component design for Sparta’s urban and commuter e-bikes, including family design features, CMF standards, and brand consistency. Manage the design process from concept through prototypes and reviews, collaborating with engineering, regulatory, and product development teams to ensure manufacturability and preserve design intent.
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree or higher in Industrial Design, Transportation Design, Product Design, or a related field is required, along with at least five years of industrial design experience and two or more products delivered to mass production. Candidates should have relevant bicycle, e-bike, two-wheeler, or consumer hardware experience, strong knowledge of European users and markets, and be willing to travel regularly to China.
