Build the data platform behind agriculture and food sustainability. The role You’ll lead the design and delivery of the data pipelines and APIs that power our insights platform. You’ll work with product, data science and engineering colleagues to turn business needs into reliable, maintainable backend systems, with performance, data integrity and security built in from the start. How we build: we work spec-first. You write the specification, the team reviews it, and an agent implements against it. Your name is on both the spec and the commit. That means less time typing code and more time on requirements, system design, acceptance criteria and review. We don’t ship code we don’t understand. What you bring A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent (a Master’s is a plus) 7+ years in data engineering, including 2+ as a Senior Engineer, building scalable pipelines, APIs and backend systems Strong Python, plus experience with a stack like ours: FastAPI, Airflow, BigQuery, PostgreSQL and Terraform Hands-on experience with EL, ETL and ELT integration patterns Solid grounding in software design and architecture, including data lakes and warehouses, for structured and unstructured data Day-to-day use of AI coding tools, and clear opinions on where they help and where they quietly create tech debt Clear communication and a mentoring instinct Nice to have: Google Cloud data pipeline services, streaming tools, data management and governance, and geospatial analytics (raster and vector data, spatial aggregation, visualization workflows). Core Responsibilities

Lead the design and delivery of data pipelines and APIs that power the insights platform, ensuring performance, data integrity, security, and maintainability. Work with product, data science, and engineering colleagues to translate business needs into reliable backend systems, writing specifications and reviewing implementations.

Requirements

Requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent field, plus at least seven years of data engineering experience, including two or more years as a senior engineer. Candidates should have strong Python skills, experience with relevant data and cloud technologies, hands-on integration-pattern experience, sound software architecture knowledge, familiarity with AI coding tools, and clear communication and mentoring abilities.
