Job Description

Klarna, briefly

At Klarna, we're building an everyday finance network, helping over 120 million consumers across 26 countries save time and money, and worry less about their finances.Working at Klarna means taking on problems most companies never get to solve, and being hands-on enough that the interesting part of the work lands with you, not someone else. You'll build with AI, not watch it happen.

This is the stretch zone. Come find out what you're capable of.

About the role

Klarna is bringing its Fair Financing product live in Belgium, extending regulated, longer-term credit into a market where Bancontact, not card, is how most consumers already pay. As Credit Underwriting Analytics Manager for Belgium, you’ll own the automated underwriting policies that decide who gets credit and on what terms, built on Belgian credit bureau data and models designed specifically for the Belgian market. The goal is a great customer experience: approving the right customers, treating them well and earning their loyalty.

This is a role with real ownership and visibility. You’ll be our underwriting expert for Belgium from the start, working hand in hand with Product, Risk, Legal, Pricing and Engineering to launch the Financing product on Klarna’s Global Underwriting Platform (GUP), the shared framework that powers credit decisions across markets.

What you'll do

  • You’ll own consumer underwriting for Belgium: the policy, the strategy and the models behind it, from Belgian credit bureau data through to the approve, decline and pricing decision.

  • You’ll analyse Belgian consumer credit risk using SQL and AI tooling to find where underwriting policy should tighten or loosen.

  • You’ll shape purchase power and pre-qualification logic for the Belgian market across Klarna’s App and its One Card product.

  • You’ll balance approvals, portfolio health and customer experience, so the customers we say yes to want to come back. That trade-off is yours.

  • You’ll work with Product, Risk, Legal, Pricing and Engineering to launch and evolve Financing in Belgium.

  • You’ll monitor how the Belgian bureau data feeding your models performs, and flag where sourcing or model quality needs to change.

  • You’ll turn what your analysis shows into policy changes the business actually implements, and present performance and recommendations to senior stakeholders

Who you are

  • You have 5+ years in consumer credit underwriting or credit risk strategy at a bank, consumer finance lender or BNPL provider. A banking or lending background is essential.

  • You’ve owned underwriting decisions end to end, from policy rules, scorecards or strategies through to monitoring, and you can show what changed and what it was worth.

  • You know credit bureau data, repayment behaviour and credit risk modelling well enough to spot where the numbers don’t add up, ideally in the Belgian market.

  • You have a degree in Finance, Economics, Data Science, Mathematics or a related quantitative field.

  • You’re proficient in SQL, comfortable working directly with large, messy datasets, and quick to pick up AI tooling.

  • You work through ambiguous or inconsistent policy logic methodically until you find the actual root cause.

  • You’re comfortable working in English, Klarna’s working language.

  • You can explain complex data to senior, non-specialist audiences and bring people with you.

  • You’ve led or mentored analysts, or you’re clearly ready to start.

Things you should know before applying

  • Working together: we value co-located teams; most teams currently meet in the office 2–3 days per week, and this varies by team and can change over time.

  • Non-obvious backgrounds are welcome. Diversity of skills, perspectives and backgrounds is how we create, innovate, and disrupt like no other.

  • Final compensation will be based on the candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience.

  • Depending on your background, this could land as an Analytics Manager role or a Data Scientist role — we'll settle the exact title with you once we understand your experience.

Please include a CV in English.
