Job Description
At a glance Would you like to use data science to investigate real questions about risk, controls and banking processes? During this six-month internship, you will develop a data-science project from initial research question to analysis and results. You will work as part of the Group Audit Data Analytics team and receive guidance from experienced data scientists throughout the internship. The purpose of Group Audit is “being the messenger that makes the better bank”. A main part of our purpose is achieved by executing audits. Audits are short research projects, executed within one and a half to three months. These projects have three phases, preparation and orientation, fieldwork, and reporting. Group Audit helps the bank understand whether important processes and controls work as intended and comply with internal policies and external requirements. Our Data Analytics team uses data science techniques to help auditors identify patterns, risks and areas that merit further investigation. Your job During your internship period, you will be treated as a colleague of the Data Analytics Department of Group Audit. In addition, you will be responsible for the set-up and execution of a Data Science project. With support from the team, you will: Translate the (research) objectives of an audit into a data science project. Explore, prepare, and engineer the required data for the analysis. Setup a data science project in Databricks. Discuss your approach and findings with data scientists and audit colleagues; Communicate your results clearly, including uncertainties and limitations; Contribute ideas and ask questions throughout the project. By doing so you will learn what it is like to support auditors in their risk-based audit approach in a highly complex environment. You will work with experienced data scientists and data analysts. Therefore, you do not need previous experience in banking or audit. You will have a named supervisor and a regular check-in to discuss progress, questions and learning goals. If you are interested and (more importantly) there is time, you are more than welcome to participate in supporting an audit with Data Analytics. We have a couple of projects available: Developing a network-analysis approach to identify relevant connections or patterns. Evaluating and improving an existing similarity-analysis method. We will agree on the final project based on current audit needs, available data and your learning objectives. Your profile You are pursuing a Master Level degree in a field that includes data-science methods. You are looking for opportunities to learn new things, and topics. You can analyse an unfamiliar (research) question, identify what is most relevant, and discuss appropriate next steps with the team. You enjoy collaborating with people from different professional backgrounds and are willing to share your ideas, listen to others and ask for input when needed. You can communicate your questions, approach and findings clearly in English. You have experience with Python, SQL, Databricks, network analysis or similarity methods. You are available to start in December, we are happy to discuss the exact starting date with you. You are enrolled at a Dutch university/higher level education for the entire duration of your internship. are available for approximately six months, ideally for 36 hours per week. If your university programme requires a different arrangement, we encourage you to discuss this with us. What We Offer An internship allowance of €750 per month, based on a 36-hour work week.
