Job Description

Do you want to design instruments where every millimeter affects what the sensor measures? At VPInstruments, we develop state-of-the-art flow meters for compressed air and industrial gases that help industries cut energy waste. We're looking for a Medior Mechanical Design Engineer who works at the intersection of mechanics and physics: someone who sees a flow channel, a housing or a seal not just as a part, but as part of the measurement. What we do VPInstruments' mission is to make the world a better and more sustainable place by eliminating industrial energy waste. We develop, produce and supply instrumentation and monitoring software for compressed air and technical gases, used in production plants worldwide, from glass and food & beverage to automotive and pharma. Our R&D team designs new state-of-the-art products, which we manufacture ourselves. What can you expect in the role of Mechnical Design Engineer? Our flow meters pack mechanics, electronics and thermal components into a compact sensor housing, and the mechanical design directly shapes measurement accuracy. You'll own that design from first concept to series production, working closely with our electronics and software engineers. Design precision sensor housings, flow bodies and assemblies in SolidWorks, where geometry, flow profile and thermal behavior determine how well the instrument measures. Apply fluid dynamics and heat transfer to real design questions: flow conditioning, pressure drop, sensor placement, thermal stability. From hand calculations to simulation. Build prototypes and test them in our lab under real conditions: flow, pressure and temperature. Use the results to refine the design and get it ready for IP and CE certification. Bring designs into production: DFM/DFA, tolerancing, working with suppliers, and improving how we build and scale our products in-house. What we would expect from you A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar. A few years of hands-on experience in mechanical design of technical or industrial instrumentation. Experience in precision mechanics and strong SolidWorks skills: tight tolerances, fits and sealing, and a practical sense for manufacturability (DFM/DFA). A solid feel for physics: you can reason about fluid flow, pressure and heat transfer, and you understand how your design influences what the sensor measures. You enjoy building test setups, collecting data and drawing sound conclusions from it. Fluent in English; Dutch is a strong plus, as you'll work closely with our production team and local suppliers. Available 32–40 hours per week and living within ~30 km of Delft (or willing to relocate). Bonus points for experience with CFD or thermal simulation, flow measurement or metrology, or engineering change processes. If you're strong on the fundamentals and curious about the physics, we'd love to talk. What can you expect from us You'll join an informal, close-knit company with a young and ambitious team of about 18 people. We like to challenge ourselves and be the best at what we do, and we invest in your personal development. Team spirit matters: we lunch together and go on regular team outings, and you have the option to work up to 40% from home. We offer a competitive salary, 24 holidays + 4 ADV days with the option to buy extra, full travel expense reimbursement, a solid pension plan, a contribution towards sports and a company-wide profit-sharing scheme. Plus an R&D lab with custom-built test setups and room to explore. How to join Questions, or ready to apply? Contact Arash Noroozi via [email protected] or +31 (0)15 213 1580, and include your motivation letter with your application. We'd like to drink a cup of coffee and get to know you better. Unsolicited services or offers from recruitment agencies or intermediaries will not be responded to.

Core Responsibilities

Design precision sensor housings, flow bodies, and assemblies in SolidWorks, applying fluid dynamics and heat-transfer principles to improve measurement accuracy. Build and test prototypes, refine designs for certification, and prepare them for production through DFM/DFA, tolerancing, supplier collaboration, and process improvements.

Requirements

A bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field, along with a few years of hands-on mechanical design experience in technical or industrial instrumentation, is expected. Candidates should have strong SolidWorks and precision-mechanics skills, practical knowledge of fluid flow, pressure, and heat transfer, and the ability to build test setups and interpret data; fluent English is required, while Dutch is a strong plus.

Benefits

  • Flexible Work From Home
  • Competitive Salary
  • 24 Holidays
  • 4 ADV Days
  • Option to Buy Extra Holidays
  • Full Travel Expense Reimbursement
  • Pension Plan
  • Sports Contribution
  • Profit-Sharing Scheme
  • Personal Development
  • R&D Lab Access
