Key Skills
Job Description
At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections, where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.
The Position
Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Specialist
Almere & Woerden, Netherlands
At Roche, we believe that delivering life-saving healthcare shouldn't come at the cost of the planet or the well-being of our people. As our Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Specialist, you will directly safeguard the colleagues who bring innovative diagnostic and pharmaceutical solutions to patients every day.
By translating global sustainability and safety strategies into local action across both Roche Diagnostics Netherlands B.V. and Roche Nederland B.V., you will foster a safe, resilient, and compliant environment where our teams can focus on what matters most: doing now what patients need next.
Reporting to the SHE Officer, you will operationalize Roche’s well-established global SHE frameworks across our two Dutch affiliates in Almere and Woerden. Because Roche provides mature corporate directives and digital systems, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Instead, your mission is pragmatic deployment: translating clear global guidelines into engaging local safety culture, health initiatives, and community wellbeing programs, backed by a flexible hybrid working model.
Key Responsibilities
- Localize Corporate Directives & Dutch Legislation: Leverage Roche’s comprehensive global SHE directives and adapt them seamlessly for our commercial and office teams. Facilitate local legislation (Arbowet, RI&E updates, GreenDeal 3.0, and applicable European environmental standards) with the support of established local advisory partners and turnkey templates.
- Digital Systems, Incident Investigations & Corporate Reporting: Utilize enterprise platforms (Enablon) to coordinate incident investigations and CAPA workflows, as well as annual affiliate SHE and resilience metrics.
- Workplace Safety & Ergonomics: Oversee practical ergonomics (office and home working) and commercial field safety, ensuring our facilities remain safe, supportive, and hazard-free.
- Occupational Health & Vitality: Partner with independent occupational health providers (Arbodienst) and drive wellbeing campaigns (e.g., Roche LiveWell) that prioritize mental health, work-life harmony, and vitality.
- Resilience & Business Continuity Exercises: Partner with the SHE Officer to facilitate the annual review of our affiliate Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and help organize tabletop exercises to test business resilience across our hybrid operating model. (Day-to-day emergency response and floor wardens are managed by our dedicated internal emergency response (BHV) team).
- Safety Culture & Community Engagement: Act as the visible, approachable SHE champion for both sites. Turn corporate safety principles into fun, human-centered campaigns that build genuine community engagement across diverse, international teams.
What We Hope You Will Bring
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, Occupational Health, or a related field. Professional credentials (MVK/HVK qualification or Certified Preventiemedewerker) are strongly preferred.
- Regulatory Literacy: Sound working knowledge of European environmental standards and core occupational safety principles. Familiarity with (or readiness to quickly master), Dutch Arbowet and RI&E frameworks with the support of our local partners.
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of practical SHE/HSE experience within a commercial affiliate, corporate office, or service-oriented environment. Experience within the Roche Group or life sciences network is a distinct advantage.
- Mindset: A pragmatic implementer who loves people over paperwork. You excel at taking structured global corporate standards and turning them into engaging local initiatives.
- Systems & Languages: Hands-on experience with digital SHE platforms (e.g. Enablon). Professional fluency in English is required (our primary business language). Working knowledge of Dutch is a strong asset for local stakeholder engagement, but we welcome internal transfers and international candidates.
