Job Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific offers the scale, reach, and mission-driven work to make a meaningful impact.

DESCRIPTION

Department

The Research and Development organization for Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM) is committed to developing innovative technologies, modules and software that enable us to deliver world class TEM microscopes for our demanding markets and customers. With the ongoing developments in physics and industry the performance requirements of these TEM microscopes are continuously growing. In close cooperation with the TFS Advanced Technology Development group and several strategic collaboration partners, we are striving to define the most advanced concepts and turn them into real products, with the purpose of enabling our customers to make the world cleaner, healthier and safer!

Team

The electrical team in the Platform – R&D division consists of about 12 design engineers developing electrical designs for our microscopes. The team works on a wide variety of projects serving our high-end TEM microscopes roadmap. Most relevant projects cover advanced camera systems, electron beam control and electrical- interconnects and infrastructures. We are closely working together with several development- and manufacturing partners.

Role

You will own the electrical domain within our projects, ranging from proof of concept to final release for production. You will closely work together with many stakeholders in-and outside the team. You will drive key-decisions in a team setting on electrical architectures, design trade-offs and risk mitigations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Electrical design; Creation of electrical architectures and designs, from requirements definition to production release. Key aspects are low noise, high-speed, signal- and power integrity, simulations, PCB stack ups, evaluations on system level, control systems, EMC, design reviews, testability, quality, compliance to safety standards
  • Technical leadership; Having the lead electrical engineer role in advanced development projects, representing the electrical domain in diverse teams. Working closely together with other disciplines as system architects, (electro-) mechanical and manufacturing engineers, procurement and suppliers. Key aspects are planning, risk assessments, system level view, advanced problem solving with other disciplines
  • Supplier collaboration; Establishing a smooth collaboration, ranging from PCB layout supervision to technical guidance of a full design outsourcing process with aspects such as scope definition, technical specifications, communication, managing deliverables and changes.

REQUIREMENTS

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering.
  • Experience in developing complex electrical designs in a multi-disciplinary high-tech engineering environment. Significant experience with analogue- and digital electronics, PCB technology, design for EMC compliance and electrical safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead electrical engineering work in multidisciplinary teams, align stakeholders on design decisions, manage technical risks and deliver electrical requirements and architectures from proof of concept through production release
  • Experience in cooperation with suppliers, ranging from supervision of well defined design work to full outsourcing of sub-assemblies in the electrical domain.

Personal traits

  • A pro-active mindset, initiative taking, hands-on mentality, self steering, self confident, pragmatic and perseverant.
  • Excellent communicator and collaborative teammate.
  • Strong problem solving and documentation skills.

Core Responsibilities

You will own the electrical domain for transmission electron microscope projects, managing designs from proof of concept to production release. This includes technical leadership, supplier collaboration, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering with significant experience in complex electrical design. Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage technical risks in a high-tech environment is required.
