Job Description

Shape the future of circular concrete. everox reduces global CO₂ emissions by transforming waste concrete into high-quality substitutes for cement, aggregates and sand through our patented upcycling technology. We are now moving from pilots to industrial production. Our first commercial plant in 's-Gravendeel turns waste concrete into new building materials: recycled sand and aggregates, and a low-carbon replacement for cement. More plants and products will follow. To make the best materials, we need to know exactly what is in them. That is what our lab is for, and that is where this role comes in. About The Role As R&D Lab Technician, you run our Advanced Characterization Lab independently. You test samples of concrete and cement-based materials with techniques such as XRD, XRF and TGA. You prepare the samples yourself, from crushing and sieving to milling, and you make sure every result is reliable and well documented. You also keep the lab running smoothly. You plan the lab calendar, receive and register samples, order consumables and keep the instruments calibrated. You write and improve our lab procedures, so that every test is done the same way every time. Your results really matter. You turn lab data into clear reports, and our R&D engineers use them to design new concrete mixes and set the specifications for our products: recycled aggregates, ultrafines and low-carbon cement replacements. You work closely with the R&D engineers and report to our Head of Product. This is a hands-on role in the lab, with room to grow into a senior position as you gain experience. The lab is where the work happens, so you work on site in our lab at SubZero in Rotterdam at least four days a week. Responsibilities Plan and run advanced characterization tests on concrete and cement-based materials: XRD, XRF, FTIR, laser diffraction, calorimetry, TGA and acid leaching. Document every test carefully, so results are reliable and easy to trace back. Prepare samples for testing, including crushing, milling, sieving and test-specific preparation. Plan the lab: manage the lab calendar and instrument bookings, and make sure consumables are always in stock. Receive and register incoming samples, and keep a clear chain-of-custody from intake to result. Write, maintain and improve the lab's standard operating procedures (SOPs). Keep quality high with QA/QC checks, calibrations and control charts, working with an ISO/IEC 17025 mindset. Manage and analyse lab data, and summarise the results in clear reports. Work closely with the R&D engineers, so your results guide our mix designs and product specifications. What You Bring You have a few years of lab experience and you love hands-on work. You enjoy working with concrete and cement, you work carefully and safely, and you care about good data. You can keep several things going at once without losing track. HBO/BSc degree in Materials Science, Concrete Technology, Cement Chemistry, Geochemistry, Mineralogy or a related field. At least 2 years of laboratory experience. Hands-on experience with XRD, XRF, FTIR, laser diffraction, calorimetry, TGA and acid leaching workflows. Experience in laboratory data management and analysis, including working with a laboratory information management system (LIMS). Solid data and Excel skills. Familiarity with EN 196/197/206, EN 12350/12390 and EN 933/1097, or the willingness to learn them. An organised, safety-conscious way of working, and comfort with managing multiple priorities. Ability to work on site at our lab in Rotterdam at least four days a week and available per 1 January 2027. Nice-to-haves Experience working in an ISO/IEC 17025 environment. Python/Jupyter skills for data analysis. What We Offer Competitive compensation based on the market, your experience and qualifications (€45,000-€55,000 gross per year including holiday allowance). Employee ownership through our ESOP and a company pension plan at Zwitserleven. 27 days of annual holiday leave. A one-year contract for 40 hours per week, with the intention to extend to a permanent contract. Training and development, including vendor training where relevant. An impactful position in a fast-growing, mission-driven scale-up. Interested? Ready to shape the future of circular concrete from the lab? Join a diverse team committed to sustainability and making a real impact on CO₂ reduction. Even if you don't meet every requirement, please apply - your unique background could be exactly what we need.

Core Responsibilities

Independently plan and perform advanced characterization tests on concrete and cement-based materials, including sample preparation, instrument calibration, quality checks, and traceable documentation. Manage lab operations and data, report results clearly, and collaborate with R&D engineers to inform mix designs and product specifications.

Requirements

Requires a relevant HBO/BSc degree and at least two years of laboratory experience, including hands-on experience with the listed characterization methods and laboratory data systems. Candidates should be organized, safety-conscious, proficient with data and Excel, familiar with relevant EN standards or willing to learn them, and able to work on-site in Rotterdam at least four days per week from January 1, 2027.
