Job purpose

To provide specialist inputs with regard to electricity-related issues to ensure that the electrical network in the City of Tshwane distribution area is reliable, safe and cost-effective and conforms to NRS 047, NRS 048 and other related standards

Appointment 

requirements

An appropriate three-year career-related tertiary qualification (national diploma or degree), BEng or BTech in Electrical Engineering or any other electrical engineering-related study field

Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) will be an added advantage

At least six years’ work experience in a network infrastructure design environment

A valid Code B driving licence

Computer literacy 

Willingness and ability to work overtime and standby as and when required

Must undergo a criminal record check and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost

Primary functions

Ensure the verification of network development and planning designs to ensure that the designs comply with the relevant design standards

Ensure the research and implementation of new technologies in the electrical field

Ensure the drafting and maintaining of the panel of consultants for the Energy and Electricity Business Unit to ensure that the consultants appointed are of an acceptable level and comply with Council policy regarding consultants

Compile and maintain a data system or site for the Secondary Electricity Development Section to ensure that relevant information is kept up to date and that all the relevant personnel have access to this information
