Job Description
About the job At Ignition Computing we specialize in high-performance computing and research software. Be it through building infrastructure for nuclear fusion research, reducing computation times through simulation acceleration or by building a platform for greenhouse optimization, we work with our clients to make the world a better and greener place. As a developer at Ignition Computing you will provide programming and consulting services for research support and development. You will get the chance to be involved at every step of the way in the development of software. We mainly code in Python, C++, and Fortran. Our team is all about sharing know-how and helping each other thrive. If you want to grow your skills as a developer, you're the kind of person we're after. Ignition Computing is based in Eindhoven, in the Apparatenfabriek in Strijp-S. Our culture is focused on cooperation, growth and a healthy work-life balance. At Ignition Computing we believe in an informal environment where everyone is equal. We work closely together with Afterservice (https://afterservice.nl/), sharing not only our office, lunch, and social events but also parts of our software stack and some ongoing projects. What you could be working on - We develop OptiHPC, a software product that optimize how simulations run and how HPC resources are used: - The suite spans multiple levels of the simulation stack: from solvers, preconditioners, tolerances and relaxation factors, to job placement and sizing - The ML-powered backend starts from our encoded domain expertise in heuristics and algorithms, and extends it with a data-driven approach, leveraging learning loops - We play a significant role in developing the infrastructure of the nuclear fusion ecosystem: - We contribute to IMAS, which is the "universal data language" for fusion research at ITER and other facilities. Our projects include the Pulse Design Simulator, the Waveform-Editor (https://github.com/iterorganization/Waveform-Editor) for preparing simulations and experiments and the IMAS-ParaView (https://github.com/iterorganization/IMAS-Paraview) tool which convert complex gridded structures to the VTK format and back - JOREK (https://www.jorek.eu/), which is a non-linear extended MHD code that resolves realistic toroidal tokamak X-points, on various numerical topics. - We work with multiple private companies in both magnetic confinement and inertial confinement fusion on a wide range of simulation-related topics - Our clients come from multiple industries for help on optimizing and accelerating simulation codes, building visualization tools, and solving modeling challenges Responsibilities - Work in close cooperation with customers and colleagues to design and build new software - Design and benchmark simulation acceleration strategies - Come up with new and creative ideas - Work out project proposals - Build innovative software What we ask of you - Demonstrable knowledge and experience in software development - Familiarity with Python, C++ or Fortran - Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines - STEM backgrounds are a plus - Ability to work independently and propose new ideas within a team - Experience in Nuclear Fusion research is a bonus - Fluent in written and spoken English - Eager to learn new things What you get from us - Salary in the range of €3500 to €4500 - Free lunch - Flexible Paid-Time-Off policy - Option to partially work from home - Lively work place in Eindhoven - Lots of opportunities to grow
