Job Description
Would you like to contribute to groundbreaking research on stress, health and the impact of environmental change? As a Research Technician, you will support innovative research using zebrafish as a model system, conduct laboratory experiments and play a key role in generating reliable scientific data. As a research technician in the Animal Physiology group at Radboud University, you will provide technical support for research on stress biology, stress hormones, and the effects of environmental stressors using zebrafish as a model system. You will contribute to a wide range of laboratory activities, including molecular biology techniques and experimental work with zebrafish. You will help prepare, perform and optimise experiments, ensuring that laboratory procedures are carried out accurately and that experiments generate reliable, high-quality data. In addition to your experimental work, you will contribute to the day-to-day management and organisation of the laboratory. This includes managing laboratory supplies and orders, supporting budget and financial administration, and coordinating practical activities to ensure that research proceeds efficiently. Depending on the needs of the group, you may also contribute to the organisation and coordination of the zebrafish facility and assist in teaching activities such as preparing lab classes. You will help maintain a well-organised, safe and functional working environment by taking responsibility for laboratory equipment, materials and facilities. This includes monitoring equipment performance, coordinating servicing and repairs when needed and helping to ensure that laboratory facilities are kept in good working order. Through this combination of experimental work and organisational responsibilities, you will play an important role in supporting the research team and enabling high-quality scientific research. Profile You have a research or applied science university degree (BSc or MSc) in Biology, Biomedical Sciences or a related field. You have practical experience with common molecular biology techniques, such as PCR, cloning, ELISA and Western blotting, and are eager to acquire and develop new skills. You have experience with working in a laboratory and are able to perform experiments accurately and systematically, interpret results and keep proper documentation of the data. You preferably have experience with experimental animal research, particularly using zebrafish. You are well organised, able to prioritise tasks and have problem-solving skills. You are proactive, flexible and comfortable working both independently and as part of a research team. You have good communication skills and enjoy supporting colleagues in a collaborative scientific environment. We offer We will give you a temporary employment contract of one year with the prospect of an indefinite contract. Your salary within salary scale 9 depends on your previous education and number of years of (relevant) work experience. The amounts in the scale are based on a 38-hour working week. You are also able to compose part of your employment conditions yourself, for example, exchange income for extra leave days and receive a reimbursement for your sports subscription. And of course, we offer a good pension plan. You are given plenty of room and responsibility to develop your talents and realise your ambitions. Therefore, we provide various training and development schemes. We are You will join the Department of Plant and Animal Biology at Radboud University, part of the Radboud Institute for Biological and Environmental Sciences (RIBES). The department brings together researchers, technicians and students to study how organisms respond and adapt to environmental challenges, using molecular, physiological and genetic techniques, as well as behavioural analyses. Within the Animal Physiology research group, you will work in an interdisciplinary scientific environment with access to the Radboud Zebrafish Facility. The group collaborates with other Radboud University departments, the Radboud university medical center and international collaborators to investigate stress responses, hormonal signalling and the effects of environmental stressors. By combining forces, the department's research can contribute to addressing societal challenges, including climate change, food security and human health. Practical information and applying You can apply only via the button below. Address your letter of application to Marcel Schaaf. In the application form, you will find which documents you need to include with your application. We look forward to receiving your application. The first interviews will take place in week 50.
