Job Description

How do you make our customers happy? Fulfilling E-commerce orders is pretty straightforward if you’re just sending a few. But at our scale, the logistics are downright complex. As Logistics Process Engineer at Infrastructure Development you will design and implement logistic processes that enable bol's fulfilment operations to grow and evolve. From feasibility and process design through implementation, testing, go-live, and operational handover, you ensure that processes, data, systems, equipment, and ways of working come together. Your analytical depth, logistics expertise and practical insight helps project teams to turn ambitious concepts into effective operational solutions. You contribute to projects that improve operational processes in existing warehouses or projects that deliver a new warehouse. The biggest challenge Developing an integrated logistics process while many parts of the solution are still evolving. Changes to requirements, warehouse infrastructure, automation, material handling equipment, control software, or IT functionality can have consequences across the entire fulfilment process. Information is not always complete and requirements may evolve as the project progresses. You create structure in complexity, distinguish essential requirements from nice-to-haves, and ensure the designed process is feasible and operationally sound. What You'll Do As Logistics Process Engineer Infrastructure Development You are responsible for logistics process design within projects to expand or improve bol's logistics network. Depending on the assignment, you lead specific process design topics or coordinate process design activities across multiple workstreams, stakeholders and dependencies. The topics you work on can vary widely: from driving innovations such as robotics, improving current packing processes, and identifying and solving bottlenecks that increase operational capacity, to designing future warehouse process areas such as decanting or improving an entire existing warehouse area through integrated changes in process design, mechanization and controls. Your role combines hands-on process design and problem solving with coordination and alignment to deliver integrated end-to-end solutions. Translate business objectives and high-level concepts into integrated process designs, functional requirements, and clear interfaces, considering the impact on the wider operation. Use analyzed data to create insights and draw conclusions on existing or expected operational performance, such as productivity and capacity and use these to design and deliver effective end-to-end solutions. Compare concept options, quantify key differences and prepare clear recommendations, assumptions and decision criteria. Combine focus on detail with an end-to-end perspective and coordinate input from various stakeholders within and outside bol, such as warehouse operations, product teams, Health & Safety and suppliers. Prioritize topics and determine the appropriate level of detail, balancing thorough analysis with timely decision-making. Provide input to business cases, requirements, implementation roadmaps, testing approaches, and go-live plans. Share knowledge and lessons learned to strengthen consistent process-design practice. Own your deliverables and drive progress by planning and coordinating deliverables, managing dependencies, and aligning stakeholders on responsibilities, priorities, and deadlines. Identify risks, assumptions, and gaps, and translate them into clear recommendations and decision proposals Ensure that designed solutions deliver according to requirements and come to life by executing tests and owning the hand-over to operations. Why you can make a difference You understand how processes, equipment, systems, controls, and operations influence one another. You have experience in logistics process engineering, warehouse design or business analysis. You work autonomously within agreed objectives, manage dependencies across multiple stakeholders, and ensure effective execution by creating alignment on priorities, responsibilities, and decisions. You have an analytical mindset and know how to balance analytical depth with pragmatism. You are comfortable working with detailed data as well as incomplete, high-level information. You identify bottlenecks, validate assumptions, estimate operational impact, and translate findings into clear process designs and actionable requirements. You adapt to changing circumstances, navigate unforeseen challenges, and maintain momentum when setbacks occur. Colleagues value you as a practical sparring partner who explains complex topics clearly and provides well-founded recommendations. You recognize when a local change may affect the wider warehouse concept and when to involve the right experts before decisions are made. You have an academic working and intellectual ability in engineering, logistics, supply chain or a related discipline. Experience with warehouse automation, material handling equipment, WMS or WCS functionality, controls, simulation, or logistics data analysis is a strong plus. Fluency in English is expected; Dutch is desirable. Where you'll work You'll join the Infrastructure Development team within bol's logistics organisation. We deliver infrastructure and automation projects that keep our fulfilment network scalable, efficient, safe, and future-ready. Most work is project-based, which requires flexibility either within projects or when projects change. The environment is collaborative and hands-on: we bring different perspectives together, share knowledge openly, and hold each other accountable for results. You'll also connect with fellow Logistics Process Engineers to exchange knowledge and strengthen our Field of Expertise. Something for you? Solution builder: You translate complex warehouse concepts and requirements into processes that work in daily operations. Stakeholder coordinator: You bring specialists, stakeholders, and dependencies together, creating alignment that keeps complex projects moving forward. Holistic designer: You see how processes, equipment, systems, controls, and operations influence one another. Nothing for you? Theoretical designer: You enjoy creating process designs but have little interest in whether they can be implemented successfully. Isolated analyst: You prefer producing analyses and design on your own. Local optimiser: You improve one process step without considering effects on the wider warehouse operation. We take pride in our B Corp certification and strive for continuous improvement every day. About bol

Industry: Retail

Company size: 1,001-5,000 employees

Bol is the largest online retailer in the Netherlands and Belgium. In 1999 we opened our virtual doors as first online bookstore in the Netherlands. Nowadays we’re working with 2.000 colleagues to deliver the best shopping platform ever. To be able to do this we have expanded our shopping platform in the 20 years of our existence. 2010 was the beginning of bol.com in Belgium. The first step towards our southern neighbors. And we opened our shopping platform to other retailers, for our customers to be able to find ‘everything’ on bol.com. Since 2016 it is possible for our partners to advertise via bol.com. And in 2017 Huub Vermeulen opened the doors of our bol fulfilment center. Shortly: together with 2.000 bol.commers we work to make the daily lives of our customer easier.
