AI-assisted software engineering is changing how software is written, but reviewing the resulting code remains essential. How should code review evolve to keep pace? In this master’s thesis, you will investigate the challenges of reviewing AI-generated code and explore how software teams can adapt their review practices. Recent advances in generative AI have made it possible to produce large amounts of code in a short time. While AI-assisted engineering has the potential to improve productivity, it also introduces new challenges for software quality and maintenance. Engineers are increasingly required to review, understand and validate AI-generated code. Traditional code review practices were designed around human authorship. It is currently unclear how software teams should effectively review AI-generated code and how review effort can best be balanced against risk, quality and developer productivity. The Assignment In this assignment, you will investigate the role of code review in AI-assisted software engineering. You will explore what challenges AI-generated code introduces for the review process and how engineers can effectively understand, validate and review this code. Based on your research, you will develop and evaluate an approach that helps software teams review AI-generated code more effectively. The outcome should provide practical insights and recommendations for code review in an AI-assisted development environment. Investigate the challenges AI-generated code creates for code review and how engineers can understand, validate, and review it effectively. Develop and evaluate an approach to help software teams review AI-generated code, and provide practical recommendations for AI-assisted development.
Requirements
This is a master's thesis internship focused on code review in AI-assisted software engineering. Dutch proficiency at B2 level is required.
