Key Skills
Job Description
About the role
At Algrano, we make direct coffee trade simpler by connecting producers and roasters through our marketplace and services. Reliable logistics and quality processes are essential to delivering on that promise.
As Head of Supply Chain, you will lead Logistics and Quality as one integrated function, owning operational performance from producer to roaster. You will lead an international team and translate Algrano’s Operations strategy into a concrete roadmap that improves service reliability, simplifies our logistics network and makes our operations more efficient and scalable.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You will stay close to daily operations, support the team in resolving operational issues and step in when needed to manage escalations, unblock shipments and ensure things keep moving. You will need to be highly responsive, detail-oriented and excellent at setting priorities, making sure urgent operational matters are addressed quickly without losing sight of longer-term improvements. You will combine this day-to-day involvement with building the structures, processes and capabilities needed to make the function more scalable.
A key part of the role is building a data-driven, technology-enabled supply chain. You will use data, automation and AI where they add real value, helping the team make better decisions, reduce manual work and support business growth without adding unnecessary complexity.
Key responsibilities
Strategy and end-to-end performance: Own the Operations roadmap, translating strategy into clear priorities, responsibilities and measurable outcomes. Lead Logistics and Quality as one integrated function, ensuring clear ownership across the coffee journey and accountability for service, quality and operational performance.
Daily operations and issue resolution: Stay close to the day-to-day running of the function. Support the team in solving operational challenges, take ownership of escalations and step in when needed to unblock shipments, resolve issues with partners and keep operations moving. Respond quickly to operational needs, follow up on open topics and ensure nothing falls through the cracks. Balance hands-on execution with building a function that can operate independently and at scale.
Prioritisation and execution: Set clear priorities across competing operational demands, make sound decisions about what needs immediate attention and ensure the team follows through. Maintain a good overview of ongoing activities, deadlines and dependencies while keeping the right level of attention on operational details.
Team leadership and collaboration: Lead and develop the international team of 8 direct reports, set clear expectations and build a culture of ownership and accountability. Work closely with Sourcing, Sales, Finance and Engineering to align operational capabilities with customer needs and commercial priorities.
Logistics network and partner management: Develop and optimise Algrano’s origin and destination networks based on customer needs, shipment volumes, service quality, cost and operational complexity. Build strong partnerships with warehouses, carriers and origin service providers, and continuously improve their performance.
Process improvement and technology: Simplify and standardise operational workflows before automating them. Identify opportunities to use integrations, automation and AI to reduce manual coordination, improve information quality and prevent recurring errors. Work with Product and Engineering to implement solutions that allow operations to scale efficiently.
Business intelligence and operational reporting: Build a data-driven approach to operations using tools such as Looker. Develop and improve dashboards, KPIs and reporting across service levels, lead times, shipment visibility, costs, inventory, quality and partner performance. Use these insights to identify bottlenecks, prioritise improvements and make better operational decisions.
Quality, cost and risk management: Ensure robust quality processes, claims handling, traceability and compliance. Improve cost transparency and operational efficiency while maintaining reliable service for producers and roasters.
What we are looking for
At least five years of relevant experience in coffee supply chain, logistics or operations, including team leadership.
Experience managing international logistics, warehousing, external partners and complex operational workflows.
A track record of improving service, processes and cost efficiency, and translating strategy into measurable results.
Highly detail-oriented, with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple topics, deadlines and dependencies without losing track of the details.
Excellent prioritisation and time-management skills, with the ability to distinguish between urgent operational issues and longer-term improvements.
Highly responsive and reliable, with a strong sense of ownership, proactive communication and consistent follow-through.
Hands-on experience with business intelligence and reporting tools, ideally Looker or a comparable platform, including building or improving dashboards and working with operational data.
Strong understanding of operational KPIs, data quality and data-driven decision-making.
Experience improving systems and workflows through technology, automation and AI, with a focus on practical business outcomes.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to set priorities, create clarity and build accountability across an international team.
A pragmatic, hands-on approach, with the ability to move between strategic development, supporting the team in daily operational challenges and ensuring reliable execution.
Fluency in English and Spanish; Portuguese is a plus.
What success looks like
Logistics and Quality operate as one integrated function, with clear ownership and accountability.
Producers and roasters experience reliable service, accurate information and better shipment visibility.
The logistics network and external partners meet clear service and cost expectations.

Core Responsibilities
You will lead the integrated Logistics and Quality function, owning operational performance from producer to roaster while managing an international team. The role involves translating operations strategy into a scalable roadmap, resolving daily operational issues, and leveraging data and technology to improve efficiency.

About Algrano
Industry: Food and Beverage Services
Company size: 11-50 employees
Algrano is an independent business based in Zurich, Switzerland, with team members in Europe, USA, Latin America and Africa, serving producers in 20 countries, and roasters in Europe and USA. Our online tools bring coffee buying into the 21st century. Now, roasters and producers are equal partners, breaking down the information asymmetry and speculation that traditional importers and coffee traders have exploited over the decades. Independent roasters have direct access to producers, discovering coffees that meet their needs from producers who match their values. Producers set their own prices, giving roasters price transparency from FOB to delivery costs. They have a wider customer base and direct contact with the roasters through our award-winning CRM. This openness builds trust and fosters successful business relationships. Real relationships support business growth through greater price stability, optimal quality, consistency, and authentic origin information. This all leads to more resilient supply chains for independent entrepreneurs who can grow together. "Some clients started buying 30 bags and today buy more than 600. It’s a work of trust and credibility. We have blind trust in every client who comes to us through Algrano. There’s nothing better than talking to your clients, exchanging ideas, and building relationships. They become our friends. It’s not just trading." Mauricio Hervaz, APAS Coffee, Brazil.
