How do you make our customers happy? By ensuring our financial strategies measurably improve platform performance for more than 13 million customers and 45,000 partners. As Controller Strategic Finance, you transform complex financial data into actionable insights that guide investment decisions and operational improvements. Your scenarios trigger strategic discussions at board level to challenge and strengthen our longer-term plans. Ready to turn financial expertise into strategic impact? The biggest challenge Working towards long-term strategic goals while expertly handling high-pressure ad hoc requests. You will need to translate vast amounts of financial data into compelling ‘three-bullet stories’ that engage stakeholders at all levels, including the board. How do you combine deep-dive analysis with executive-ready synthesis? How do you constructively challenge conventional thinking? You'll need superb modeling skills, the ability to thrive under pressure, and a talent for stakeholder management to maximize impact. What You'll Do As Controller Of Strategic Finance As part of the Business Planning team, you'll serve as a crucial link between detailed financial analysis and board-level decision-making. You translate our strategic ambitions into robust briefings and proposals, and report these to senior finance leadership. Your analyses directly influence investment decisions, operational strategies, and shareholder communications. You will work on the development of our long-term strategic plan, diving deep into financial details before zooming out to craft a compelling narrative. Through sophisticated modeling and scenario analysis, you will provide insight in the effect of changing market circumstances and risks and opportunities on our mid to long term financial plan to deliver recommendations that resonate. Your presentations distill complex concepts into clear, actionable insights – often in just a few powerful bullets. Working under pressure is part of the role – you will handle urgent ad hoc requests while maintaining focus on long-term strategic initiatives. You'll gather input from across the organization, ensuring all perspectives are captured on time and incorporated effectively. Your key responsibilities: Drive the development and communication of long-term strategic plans with leadership Present financial analyses to senior management and board members Build sophisticated financial models and translate strategic plans into financial constructs Translate complex insights into executive-ready presentations and three-bullet summaries Manage diverse stakeholders to ensure timely input for planning processes Collaborate within a cross-functional environment to ensure relevant perspectives are taken into account Handle ad hoc requests without losing sight of ongoing priorities Challenge the status quo thinking and propose innovative financial strategies Why you can make a difference You combine 3-7 years of finance experience with exceptional modeling and analytical skills. Your background in FP&A or management consulting, has prepared you to transition effortlessly between granular details and big-picture storytelling. With a relevant master’s degree and advanced financial knowledge, your advice withstands board-level scrutiny. You excel at PowerPoint and data visualization and can condense even the most complex analysis into a compelling story. Beyond technical prowess, you have the confidence to present to senior executives (or the eagerness to develop this skill quickly). You thrive under pressure, managing multiple stakeholder relationships while delivering quality work on tight deadlines. Where you'll work You will join a dynamic Business Planning team at the heart of bol's decision-making engine. Here, we help shape the future of one of Europe's leading retail tech platforms. The environment combines high performance with collaborative support – we challenge each other's thinking while working toward shared goals. Leadership exposure is part of daily life, and we'll happily support your growth in executive communication. With 2,800 colleagues serving millions of customers, your financial insights will have a substantial impact on both the business strategy and the customer experience. Ready to join? Let's explore how you will contribute to our continued growth and success. Something for you? Detail-to-story master: You dive deep into financial minutiae and resurface with crystal-clear narratives that the board instantly grasps Pressure performer: Ad hoc requests and tight deadlines energize rather than stress you – you deliver excellence even when the heat is on Collaborative influencer: You build bridges between finance and the business, ensuring financial insights translate into strategic action Nothing for you? Surface skimmer: You prefer high-level overviews to deep modeling to ensure strategic recommendations are sound Model maintainer: You prefer tweaking existing frameworks to building comprehensive new approaches from scratch Boardroom avoider: You crumble in discussions that can determine the course of a company We take pride in our B Corp certification and strive for continuous improvement every day. About bol

Industry: Retail

Company size: 1,001-5,000 employees

Bol is the largest online retailer in the Netherlands and Belgium. In 1999 we opened our virtual doors as first online bookstore in the Netherlands. Nowadays we’re working with 2.000 colleagues to deliver the best shopping platform ever. To be able to do this we have expanded our shopping platform in the 20 years of our existence. 2010 was the beginning of bol.com in Belgium. The first step towards our southern neighbors. And we opened our shopping platform to other retailers, for our customers to be able to find ‘everything’ on bol.com. Since 2016 it is possible for our partners to advertise via bol.com. And in 2017 Huub Vermeulen opened the doors of our bol fulfilment center. Shortly: together with 2.000 bol.commers we work to make the daily lives of our customer easier.
