About The Role As a Data Engineer at Zonneplan, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s data infrastructure and capabilities. You will develop and enhance the central data platform, ensuring secure and reliable data availability across teams. Your work will underpin the creation of a new machine learning platform by building robust data pipelines, maintaining data quality, and enabling self-service solutions for various departments. You will collaborate closely with teams such as Infra, Engineering, Trading & Optimization, and GenAI to translate data requests into scalable, sustainable solutions. Your expertise will directly impact faster data-driven decisions and help Zonneplan operate as a truly data- and AI-driven company. Qualifications Minimum 1 to 2 years of experience as a Data Engineer with broad applicability in the field Proficiency in SQL, data modeling, and building and managing reliable data pipelines Strong understanding of data quality, reliability, and security with a proactive ownership mindset Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical colleagues Collaborative approach to working with multiple teams to translate user needs into practical solutions Experience with AI tools and daily application of AI to enhance efficiency and innovation Familiarity with technologies such as Dagster, Snowflake, Postgres, Kafka, dbt, dlthub, Airbyte, Kubernetes, or AWS is a plus Experience with data mesh or self-service analytics is highly desirable Proficiency in the Dutch language is required Responsibilities Build and continuously improve the central data platform to provide reliable data to the entire organization Develop, monitor, and maintain data pipelines and data models ensuring high data quality and availability Implement access controls and data quality checks to enable secure and responsible data usage across teams Translate recurring data requests into sustainable self-service solutions that reduce turnaround times Collaborate with developers and stakeholders to build the foundational technical infrastructure for future machine learning applications Utilize AI-driven development methodologies and tools such as Claude Code to optimize workflows, testing, documentation, and monitoring Proactively identify and address potential issues before they impact dashboards, analyses, or ML applications Share knowledge and improvements actively within the team to foster continuous learning and innovation Benefits Competitive salary ranging from €3,500 to €5,000 gross per month, based on experience and expertise 25 vacation days with the option to purchase additional days Travel expense reimbursement Personal choice budget for sports, groceries, or other personal needs Immediate investment in your professional growth through the Zonneplan Academie and access to advanced tooling including a Claude Code Max 20x license Clear career progression path from Medior Data Engineer to Senior Data Engineer and eventually Tech Lead Data Dynamic work environment with close collaboration among engineers, data specialists, and product teams Opportunity to make a broad impact by laying the foundation for all data-driven products and services at Zonneplan Equal Opportunity Zonneplan is an equal opportunity employer. Core Responsibilities

Requirements

Requires at least 1–2 years of data engineering experience, proficiency in SQL, data modeling, and reliable pipeline management, and a strong understanding of data quality, reliability, and security. Candidates should communicate effectively with non-technical colleagues, collaborate across teams, use AI tools in their work, and be proficient in Dutch; experience with the listed data technologies and data mesh or self-service analytics is a plus.
