Job Description
Design and develop the hardware powering the EV charging solutions of tomorrow. At Alfen's EV Charging (EVC) business unit, the hardware we develop is at the heart of our products. Our hardware development goes far beyond the prototype stage. Our charging solutions are developed and tested in-house at Alfen and subsequently manufactured in series at our own production facility. EVC also has dedicated testing facilities, including its own anechoic chamber for EMC testing. For additional expertise and certification, we work closely with external testing institutes and technology partners. What will you do? As a Hardware Design Engineer at Alfen, you will contribute to the development and continuous improvement of smart, innovative charging solutions for electric vehicles. Your designs will be directly integrated into our charging stations, allowing you to make a tangible contribution to the energy transition. Within our R&D department, you will translate product requirements into smart, safe and reliable electronic designs. Depending on your knowledge and experience, you will be involved throughout the entire development lifecycle, from initial concept and prototyping to product launch and series production. Your Key Responsibilities Include Designing, developing and optimising electronic circuits, schematics and PCB layouts. Researching and selecting new components, technologies and innovative technical solutions. Developing, testing and validating prototypes and electronic systems. Ensuring that designs meet technical specifications, EMC requirements and applicable industry standards. Creating and maintaining technical documentation, test results, bills of materials (BOMs) and assembly instructions. Identifying and resolving technical challenges while supporting efficient and reliable production processes. Developing and improving test setups and testing environments for electronic circuits and systems. You will be part of a multidisciplinary R&D team, working closely with hardware, software and mechanical engineers. Together, you will develop new technologies and continuously improve our existing products. Your technical expertise, creativity and problem-solving skills will make a visible impact on the future development of Alfen's EV charging solutions. What do you bring? A Bachelor's degree (HBO or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or a related technical field. At least 3 years of experience in electronic hardware design and development, preferably within an R&D or product development environment. Solid knowledge of electronic circuits, schematic design and PCB layout. Experience in testing, measuring and analysing electronic circuits and prototypes. Familiarity with PCB design software, such as Altium Designer or similar tools. Basic knowledge of EMC, electrical safety and relevant technical standards is considered an advantage. A hands-on, detail-oriented and solution-driven mindset, with a strong focus on quality and manufacturability. Dutch and English, written and spoken. What do we offer? A gross monthly salary between €4,000 and €5,500, based on full-time employment and depending on your experience. 27 days of annual leave plus 13 additional ADV days (reduction of working hours), with the option to sell back up to 10 days. Hybrid working arrangements, allowing you to work remotely for up to 2 days per week based on a 40-hour working week. Free access to our online learning platform. Sports and wellness opportunities, including fitness activities and sporting events. A pension scheme through PME, including a substantial employer contribution. Travel allowance of €0.25 per kilometre (up to a maximum commuting distance of 50 km one way). Interested? Would you like to know more about this opportunity?
