Job Description

We offer you an Ocean of Possibilities. Join our family.

About us
Hop aboard Damen Naval; the naval division of the family-owned Damen Shipyards Group, where 12,000 professionals work worldwide. Damen Naval delivers advanced naval vessels to clients all over the globe. By implementing the most innovative technological developments in practice, we continue to push the boundaries of the shipbuilding industry. You can be part of our team! Are you ready for duty?

The role

In this temporary role as an Allround CADMATIC Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing integrated ship designs within the CADMATIC environment. Combining expertise in piping engineering and technical arrangements, you will translate technical requirements into practical 3D solutions for piping systems, equipment, and the spaces in which they are installed.

You will work closely with system specialists, safety engineers, maintainability experts, and other engineering disciplines to ensure that systems and components are properly integrated into the vessel. In doing so, you will consider technical requirements as well as maintainability, ergonomics, accessibility, and operational safety. You will develop and review engineering solutions, resolve design and integration challenges, and contribute to the overall technical quality and feasibility of the ship design.

Key accountabilities
In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and optimize 3D designs for piping systems, equipment, and technical spaces within CADMATIC, considering functionality, accessibility, maintainability, ergonomics, and safety.
  • Analyze technical specifications and requirements and translate them into practical and feasible engineering solutions.
  • Develop basic engineering packages, including 3D models, drawings, and production information, in accordance with applicable standards and project requirements.
  • Ensure effective integration of piping systems, equipment, and other components within technical spaces while considering interfaces with other engineering disciplines.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews, identify potential design conflicts, and propose improvements to optimize the overall vessel design.
  • Work closely with system specialists, engineers, procurement, production, and other internal and external stakeholders, providing technical advice and communicating design solutions effectively.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet applicable requirements, regulations, quality standards, and project objectives while contributing to continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

Skills & experience
As an Allround CADMATIC Engineer, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant technical discipline.
  • At least three years of relevant engineering experience, preferably within shipbuilding, offshore, or other complex maritime environments.
  • Hands-on experience with CADMATIC or comparable 2D/3D CAD software, with the ability to work on both piping systems and technical arrangements within a 3D environment.
  • Experience with the design and integration of piping systems, equipment, and technical spaces, taking into account interfaces, accessibility, maintainability, ergonomics, and safety.
  • Experience working on complex engineering projects, preferably involving technologically advanced or high-end vessels.
  • Good command of the English language, both written and verbal; proficiency in Dutch is considered an advantage.
  • Excellent references and antecedents, as a pre-employment security screening is a standard part of the recruitment procedure.

Industry: Shipbuilding

Company size: 10,001+ employees

Oceans, seas, lakes and rivers offer growing possibilities in the areas of trade, food, energy and recreation. To ensure global prosperity for next generations and keep the earth habitable with an ever-increasing population, it is essential to utilise and protect these possibilities as efficiently and responsibly as possible. Damen provides unprecedented maritime solutions for this, through design, shipbuilding, ship repair and related services. We offer versatile platforms that enable our customers to be successful and that raise the standard in terms of safety, reliability, efficiency and sustainability. We want to become the most sustainable shipbuilders in the world. In the previous century, we revolutionized shipbuilding. Thanks to standardisation, we were able to supply our customers with better ships, faster. More than 90 years and 6,500 ships later, the importance of standardisation is only increasing in the light of zero-emissions and digitalisation. We do not build our ships alone, but together with an extensive network from the international maritime cluster. We firmly believe in the power of sharing. It means that we also use our craftsmanship to build platforms on production facilities that are not ours. In this way, through knowledge transfer, we not only contribute to better, safer and more eco-friendly ships, but also to sustainable local development and prosperity. We are a family owned business and stand for fellowship, craftsmanship, entrepreneurship and stewardship. Our playing field is the world. Our horizon is the long term.
