Application Architect NS Mobility Services | Breda | Hybrid About the role Would you like to shape the technical direction of a SaaS platform that supports sustainable mobility? As Application Architect, you will be responsible for the long-term architecture of the NS Mobility Services platform. You will make technical decisions, safeguard quality and future scalability, and work closely with Engineering, Product, management, NS and external integration partners. This is primarily an architecture and technical-direction role, but you will remain close to the codebase and become hands-on when necessary to resolve critical issues or move improvements forward. Responsibilities Define and maintain architecture principles, technical standards and development frameworks. Align the product vision, roadmap and technical architecture. Create and manage the technical and architectural roadmap. Lead the architecture of APIs and integrations with NS and other mobility partners. Review technical designs, code and major implementation decisions. Identify technical debt and architectural risks and ensure improvements are prioritized. Improve the modularity, scalability and maintainability of the Laravel platform. Strengthen security, privacy and GDPR compliance for sensitive data. Advise management and stakeholders on technical choices, risks and opportunities. Establish architecture KPIs and improve the technical definition-of-ready for new projects. Share knowledge and ensure architecture decisions are understood and implemented by engineering teams. Challenge and guide technical and business stakeholders when necessary. Requirements At least five years of experience with application or software architecture in a professional SaaS or software environment. Strong and recent hands-on experience with PHP and Laravel. Experience with React is beneficial. Experience designing complex applications, APIs and integrations. Knowledge of Domain-Driven Design, architectural patterns, software quality and testing principles. Experience with scalability, security, privacy and technical-debt management. Ability to translate business requirements into clear technical direction and practical standards. Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills. Confidence to take ownership, communicate a clear vision and challenge decisions constructively. Good command of Dutch and English. HBO or university-level working and thinking ability in a technical field. Working environment NS Mobility Services is a growing scale-up backed by NS. The company has approximately 40 colleagues and operates from its office at Breda station. The role is hybrid and requires approximately one day per week in the Breda office. You will work closely with the CTO, Product, Engineering and NS stakeholders. Core Responsibilities

Define and maintain the platform’s architecture, technical standards, and roadmap, while guiding API and partner integrations and reviewing designs and major implementation decisions. Manage architectural risks and technical debt, improve scalability, security, privacy, and maintainability, and advise stakeholders while helping engineering teams implement architecture decisions.

Requirements

Requires at least five years of application or software architecture experience in a professional SaaS or software environment, with strong recent hands-on PHP and Laravel experience; React experience is beneficial. Candidates should have experience with complex applications, APIs, integrations, Domain-Driven Design, software quality, scalability, security, and technical-debt management, along with strong communication skills, Dutch and English proficiency, and technical HBO or university-level working and thinking ability.
