EUDR Assurance Manager
Key Skills
Job Description
RWE Generation NL
To start as soon as possible, full time, permanent
As EUDR Assurance Manager (d/f/m), you play a key role in ensuring that every biomass shipment RWE Generation brings to the EU market is deforestation-free, legally produced and fully traceable. You are RWE Generation's independent decision-maker on EUDR compliance: you are responsible for the proper execution of the RWE generation’s EUDR due diligence system, and judge whether the evidence for the due diligence statement is sufficient in full compliance with the EUDR before a shipment is released.
In addition, you contribute to the continuous improvement of our due-diligence system. By challenging, documenting and refining how we assess countries, suppliers and shipments, you help us demonstrate compliance with confidence to the Dutch authorities.
As the legal Operator under the EU Deforestation Regulation, RWE Generation carries full accountability for the biomass it places on the EU market. RWE Supply & Trading (RWEST) manages sourcing and supplier relationships, and a Third party contracted as authorised representative, collects and submits the shipment data. The EUDR Assurance Manager is the manager of the overarching due diligence system and the independent final gate, bringing accountability and sign-off together in one role. You report to the EUDR Compliance Officer, outside the RWEST line, which safeguards the independence of your judgement. You combine the judgement of a senior compliance manager with the credibility of an independent consultant.
About the role
- Review the full due-diligence trace for each shipment (supplier approval, traceability and geolocation data, risk assessment, mitigation, supporting documents) and decide whether the risk associated with product can be considered negligible.
- Formally approve or reject the Due Diligence Statement and authorise its submission to the EU registration system Traces.
- Hold the discharge release: no shipment is discharged until the EUDR Assurance Manager approved it, within the turnaround times defined in the approval workflow.
- Act as an independent reviewer of the work of RWEST and the third-party service provider acting as authorised representative, request additional information or mitigation when evidence is insufficient, and document the rationale for every decision.
- Visit suppliers to assess and validate their due-diligence systems, evaluate the effectiveness of their risk-mitigation measures and confirm ongoing compliance, while approving, suspending or removing suppliers in the approved-supplier register.
- Sign off the due-diligence system and any material changes to it, monitor and formally approve the due-diligence activities carried out by RWEST, and oversee the performance of the third-party service provider acting as authorised representative.
- Escalate non-approvals and material risks to the EUDR Compliance Officer, and report regularly on approvals, rejections, turnaround times and supplier findings.
- Act as RWE Generation's point of contact for the competent authorities on EUDR inquiries, inspections and feedback.
Job requirements and experience
- A degree in environmental science, forestry, law, business, engineering or a comparable discipline, or an equivalent qualification gained through experience.
- Several years of senior experience in due diligence, compliance, supply-chain assurance, auditing or sustainability, ideally in biomass, forestry, agricultural commodities or the energy sector.
- Solid knowledge of the EUDR (or the ability to reach expert level quickly), including risk assessment, traceability, geolocation and chain-of-custody requirements.
- Proven ability to make fact-based, well-documented decisions under time pressure, and the confidence to say “no” when the evidence does not support approval.
- Experience assessing supplier management systems and the effectiveness of risk-mitigation measures, with familiarity in biomass and forest certification schemes (e.g. SBP, FSC, ISCC etc,) as well as satellite and geospatial verification tools.
- Strong communication skills, excellent stakeholder management skills.
- Business-fluent English and Dutch
- Willingness to travel for supplier visits.
Advantageous, but not essential
- Experience working with a regulator or competent authority.
- Formal auditor qualification.
Your benefits
- Opportunity to build and shape a new, high-visibility process, with real decision-making authority and direct access to RWE Generation leadership.
- Close collaboration with RWEST, third-party experts and site teams in an international working environment.
- A varied role that combines expert desk work with supplier visits.
- An attractive and competitive salary and benefits package, including RWE’s contribution of two-thirds of your ABP pension premium.
- Flexible working hours and hybrid working options to support a healthy work-life balance.
- Generous annual leave arrangements, including the option to buy or sell additional leave days.
- A personal training and development budget, with extensive career opportunities across RWE’s international organisation.
- A collaborative culture based on trust, open feedback and continuous improvement.
