SGL as an employer Working at SGL means playing in the Champions League. Our team thrives in an informal culture where collaboration, innovation, passion and personal development go hand in hand. We encourage learning, sharing ideas, and taking ownership of your work, so every team member can make an impact. Great work comes from great teams - from Friday drinks and table tennis to team outings that bring colleagues from across the globe together, we make sure there is plenty of fun and connection. At SGL, teams bond in ways that matter to them! The position As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer at SGL System, you will take ownership of your part of the puzzle, the embedded software that powers reliable, high-performance system operation. You are the “playing captain” of the software team, combining hands-on engineering with technical leadership, mentoring, and architectural guidance to support the greater company product roadmap. You take initiative, identify opportunities for improvement, and drive projects from idea to delivery without waiting for direction. You actively embrace AI and modern engineering tools to improve software quality, development efficiency, and the way the team works. You will work extensively with embedded Linux, Yocto, and C/C++ to develop, optimize, and maintain robust software platforms for production systems. You will also leverage AI to enhance development, testing, and debugging, and explore opportunities to apply AI within our embedded systems. Working closely with hardware, electronics, and systems engineering teams, you will turn complex technical requirements into reliable, maintainable solutions. Your work will have a direct impact on system performance, stability, and long-term product quality. Responsibilities Lead & Mentor: Lead a small team of engineers, balancing capacity planning and sprint goals without losing the human touch. Establish and uphold engineering best practices, including testing strategies, code reviews, and CI quality gates. Build: Develop and maintain robust embedded software using C/C++ and Embedded Linux, leveraging Yocto to build and evolve reliable, production-ready platforms. Architect: Drive and support the software lifecycle, from system architecture and implementation to testing, integration, and release readiness. Bridge: Support the Director of Engineering by helping connect engineering and product management, translating functional requirements into technical solutions and roadmaps. Innovate: Actively leverage AI tools to improve code quality, testing, debugging, and development efficiency. Explore opportunities to integrate AI capabilities into embedded systems and drive the adoption of tools that deliver real value. Solve: Improve system reliability through data-driven debugging, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement based on real-world feedback. Skills Set Experience: 8+ years of relevant software development experience, with an emphasis on depth and impact over tenure alone. Education: BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Systems & Control, Robotics, or equivalent. Tech Stack: Strong experience with Embedded Linux, Yocto, and C/C++ (C++17 or newer) in production environments, backed by solid systems engineering skills. Experience using AI tools in software development, and familiarity with AI/ML integration in embedded systems, are strong advantages. Leadership: 3+ years experience leading technical teams. You are familiar with Agile/Scrum, but you value individuals and interactions over rigid processes. Quality Mindset: A track record of building testable software (unit/integration testing, automation, CI mindset), with an interest in using AI to continuously improve engineering quality. Debugging: Strong skills in performance profiling, memory management, and solving hard-to-reproduce bugs in complex hardware/software systems. What we offer A challenging international working environment. A versatile role in a young and ambitious team. Plenty of responsibility, initiative. A competitive salary.
