Job Description
At Genmab, we are dedicated to building extra[not]ordinary® futures, together, by developing antibody products and groundbreaking, knock-your-socks-off KYSO antibody medicines® that change lives and the future of cancer treatment and serious diseases. We strive to create, champion and maintain a global workplace where individuals’ unique contributions are valued and drive innovative solutions to meet the needs of our patients, care partners, families and employees. Our people are compassionate, candid, and purposeful, and our business is innovative and rooted in science. We believe that being proudly authentic and determined to be our best is essential to fulfilling our purpose. Yes, our work is incredibly serious and impactful, but we have big ambitions, bring a ton of care to pursuing them, and have a lot of fun while doing so. Does this inspire you and feel like a fit? Then we would love to have you join us! Interested in more than one internship with us? We are posting several projects within our Utrecht Genmab site, each with its own research focus, recruitment team, and selection process. Please take time to explore the available projects and apply to a maximum of two that best match your interests and skills. If you apply to two, include the project titles in order of preference in both motivation letters, with a brief explanation of your interest in each. This helps our teams understand your preferences throughout the separate selection processes! The Role Are you interested in protein analysis and mass spectrometry, and would you like to contribute to the development of analytical methods that support antibody therapeutics? We are looking for an intern to join our Bioanalytical Science team in Utrecht. The team develops and applies analytical methods that support the preclinical and clinical development of Genmab’s antibody therapeutics. During this internship, you will gain hands-on experience in protein sample preparation and targeted LC-MS/MS, with guidance from experienced bioanalytical scientists and research associates. Our project will take shape through discussions with you. The exact research question and experimental approach have not yet been finalized. Together with your supervisor, you will define a project that brings together the team’s research priorities, your scientific interests, and your university’s learning objectives, within the time and resources available. Does this sound like something that interests you? We look forward to receiving your application and exploring the possibility of you joining our team. Help us get to know you by submitting a CV and motivational letter. Responsibilities Review published protein assays and peptide databases to identify suitable starting points for method development. Evaluate the LC-MS/MS performance of candidate peptides selected by the project team. Perform protein digestion and investigate how sample preparation conditions affect peptide recovery and reproducibility. Help optimize LC-MS/MS conditions for selected peptides, including chromatography and precursor-to-fragment transitions. Assess whether endogenous proteins can be measured in the intended biological matrix. Evaluate initial assay performance, including selectivity, sensitivity, and repeatability. Document experiments in an electronic laboratory notebook, interpret results with your supervisors, and present your findings and recommendations to the team. Requirements Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program or MSc at a Dutch university of applied sciences (HBO) in Chemistry, Life Sciences, Biomedical Laboratory Research, or a related discipline. This internship must be a formal, mandatory component of your degree program required for graduation; we cannot consider candidates who have already graduated or who are seeking an extracurricular internship. Foundational knowledge of analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or protein analysis. Practical laboratory experience through coursework or research projects, including accurate pipetting, solution preparation, and safe handling of laboratory materials. Ability to perform basic calculations involving concentrations, dilutions, and experimental data. Ability to document laboratory work clearly and interpret experimental results. Sufficient English proficiency to discuss experiments and write scientific documentation in an international team. Coursework or practical experience in liquid chromatography or mass spectrometry, familiarity with protein sample preparation, enzymatic digestion or peptide analysis, and experience processing and presenting data using Excel or other scientific software are advantageous. Previous experience with targeted protein LC-MS/MS is welcome but is not required. General Information Internship duration: a minimum of 7 months, preferably 9 months due to the complexity of the project. Start date: 1 Feb/March 2027 (fixed start dates aligned with our internship cohorts, so you can join fellow students for onboarding and make the most of the shared learning activities throughout your internship).
