Are you passionate about reducing the climate impact of freight and logistics? We're looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Technical Manager – Market Based Measures to support Smart Freight Centre's work on emissions accounting, book and claim approaches, and decarbonization standards. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with technical frameworks, collaborating with industry experts, and turning complex sustainability concepts into practical solutions. You'll work closely with colleagues, member companies, and international stakeholders to help advance credible emissions reporting and accelerate the decarbonization of global freight and logistics.

✈️ About Smart Freight Centre:
Think about the package that just arrived at your doorstep. The products on store shelves, or the goods being shipped across oceans. Logistics is everywhere, powering the world we live in. And because it’s everywhere, it’s also one of the biggest contributors to carbon emissions globally.
That’s where Smart Freight Centre (SFC) steps in. We’re tackling the carbon footprint of logistics head-on, working with businesses, governments, and key players around the globe. Our mission? To transform the logistics sector into a zero-emission industry by 2050, or hopefully even sooner. Want to help drive this change? Join us.

✏️ About the position:
As a Technical Manager, specializing in Market Based Measures (MBM), your role involves collaborating with Program Management to expedite the adoption and acknowledgment of SFC's "Voluntary Market Based Measures Framework for Logistics Emissions Accounting and Reporting" and its accompanying standard, the MBM Specification. The primary objective is establishing confidence and credibility in SFC’s chain of custody (i.e., book and claim) accounting practices, positioning them as acknowledged methods for Scope 3 decarbonization claims in transportation and logistics.

⭐ Here’s an idea of what tasks you might be working on:
  • Methods, Standards & Assurance Strategy: Contribute to shaping the methods, standards and assurance strategy for SFC’s Market Based Measures program.
  • MBM in the Book and Claim Community: Support shaping the future for market-based measures in key areas such as road transportation, registries, and accounting/reporting, navigating demands of stakeholders, academia and public policy
  • Content Development: Provide content input for training courses, case studies, and other publicity materials to accelerate the uptake and recognition of our framework and standard.
  • Technical Advisory Services: Offer expert advice to SFC's multinational clients and partners on decarbonization and emissions accounting/reporting using MBM.
  • Compliance Support: Support member book and claim transactions compliance checks via appropriate channels.
  • Framework Maintenance: Support the maintenance and further development of our "Voluntary Market Based Measures Framework for Logistics Emissions Accounting and Reporting" and overall MS&A team standard maintenance.
  • Project Support: Support book and claim-related projects as a technical expert to advance and guide member organizations on sustainable logistics.
  • Meeting Facilitation: Organizing meetings, distilling key takeaways, and conveying that information to meeting participants and others.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Applying communication and facilitation skills to guide and assist a range of stakeholders.

⭐ Ideal candidate. We are looking for someone who has:
  • In-depth Sector Knowledge: Technical interest and understanding of the freight transport sector and its decarbonization challenges.
  • Technical Expertise: Technical knowledge and experience in GHG emission accounting in transportation and market-based measures and current challenges, ideally knowledge of SFC’s framework and preferably with experience in book and claim and other chain of custody models.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent writing skills and ability to make technical content accessible to non-technical audiences.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in English, near-native level, additional language skills welcome.
  • Collaborative Nature: Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Detail-oriented Approach: Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Passion for Sustainability: Motivation to be part of a passionate and diverse team and work on an important cause to make the global freight sector more sustainable.
We recognize that skills and experience can be gained in many ways. If you don't meet every requirement but feel this role is a strong fit for your strengths, aspirations, and potential, we encourage you to apply. We are committed to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive team where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
