Job Description

Head of Sales – Caribbean Paramaribo, Suriname | International Relocation Opportunity | Uncapped Commission Ready to take your career somewhere completely different? How about swapping your usual commute for a new life in South America, while taking on a senior commercial leadership role at the heart of one of the world's emerging energy markets? At Global Event Partners (GEP), we're looking for an ambitious, commercially minded sales leader who's ready for a new challenge, a change of scenery and the opportunity to make a real impact. And the timing couldn't be more interesting. A market on the move Suriname is attracting serious international attention. Major offshore oil discoveries have put this small South American nation firmly on the global energy map. TotalEnergies, APA Corporation and Suriname's national oil company, Staatsolie, are progressing a multibillion-dollar offshore development, with first oil production targeted for 2028. With investment flowing into exploration, production, infrastructure and supply chains, international businesses are positioning themselves for the opportunities ahead. That's where we come in. At GEP, we bring together the companies, governments, investors and industry leaders shaping these developments through our portfolio of international conferences and exhibitions. Our flagship Suriname Energy, Oil & Gas Summit & Exhibition (SEOGS) has grown into one of the Caribbean's leading energy industry events, attracting a truly international audience. The 2026 edition welcomed more than 12,000 visitors, 1,200 delegates and 260 exhibitors, building on a run of sold-out events and increasing international interest. It's an established, commercially successful platform operating in a market with significant potential for further growth. And we're looking for someone to help drive its next chapter. The opportunity Based in Paramaribo, Suriname, you'll take ownership of commercial growth across our Caribbean events portfolio, leading our local sales operation and developing relationships with some of the most influential organisations in the region. This is a role for someone who enjoys the challenge of winning business just as much as leading a team. You'll be: Driving commercial growth: Taking ownership of sponsorship, exhibition and partnership revenues, building on established success while identifying new opportunities. Leading from the front: Managing, coaching and developing our local sales team, creating a high-performing commercial operation. Building influential relationships: Working with international energy companies, senior executives, government representatives, investors and industry leaders. Capitalising on market growth: Understanding the changing energy landscape and translating investment, business activity and industry developments into commercial opportunities. Shaping what comes next: Bringing fresh thinking, commercial ambition and leadership to a growing international events portfolio. What you'll bring We're looking for someone who understands how to build relationships, recognise commercial opportunity and turn conversations into business. You'll ideally have a background in international B2B sales, exhibitions, sponsorship or sectors such as energy and infrastructure. You'll also bring: A strong track record of winning and developing high-value commercial relationships. Experience leading, coaching and developing sales teams. The confidence and credibility to engage and negotiate with senior decision-makers. Strong commercial judgement, an entrepreneurial mindset and the drive to deliver results. Fluent English, essential for working with our international clients and partners. Dutch, Spanish, French or other relevant languages would be advantageous, but are not essential. An adaptable outlook and genuine enthusiasm for working internationally. You might currently be based in the Netherlands, the US, elsewhere in Latin America or already in the Caribbean. What matters is the commercial experience you bring and your willingness to make Suriname your new home. The opportunity beyond the job An international leadership role. A new country. A rapidly developing industry. And the chance to play a meaningful part in growing a commercially successful business. You'll have significant autonomy, exposure to international markets and the opportunity to develop your career as we continue to grow. With Dutch as an official language and strong historical and cultural connections to the Netherlands, Suriname could be a particularly interesting move for Dutch professionals looking to take their careers in a new direction. We're offering an attractive, uncapped commission structure, alongside the opportunity to take on a commercially significant leadership position in an exciting international market. For candidates considering an international move, we're happy to discuss relocation arrangements as part of the recruitment process. Our recruitment process We believe recruitment should be a two-way conversation, so we want you to know what to expect from the outset. First stage – Talent Acquisition A structured interview exploring your commercial experience, leadership approach, achievements and suitability for the role. Second stage – Commercial Leadership A 60-minute session with our Group Commercial Director, including a practical commercial scenario designed to explore how you approach client conversations, identify opportunities and articulate value. This will be followed by a deeper discussion around your experience, commercial judgement and leadership capabilities. Final stage – Senior Leadership An informal 30-minute conversation with our senior leadership team, exploring our business, vision, strategy and longer-term ambitions. Throughout the process, we'll keep you informed, provide clarity on next steps and give you plenty of opportunity to ask questions and get to know us. Curious? You don't need to have planned a move to Suriname to explore this opportunity. Sometimes the most interesting career moves are the ones you hadn't considered. If you've got the commercial experience, leadership capability and appetite for a new challenge, we'd love to hear from you. Get in touch for an informal, confidential conversation about the role, our business and what a move to Suriname could look like.
