Job Description
Be part of a movement that moves the world At ASICS, we’re more than just a brand; we’re a movement. A movement of movement, propelled by the belief that motion strengthens the body and uplifts the mind. Our name itself, an acronym for “Anima Sana in Corpore Sano” (a Sound Mind in a Sound Body), encapsulates this commitment. Since taking our first step in Japan in 1949, our journey has been about more than just reaching the finish lines or clocking the fastest times. It’s about the joy of moving and it’s open to all. Here at ASICS, we welcome diversity in our people, their backgrounds and life experiences. So, you could be the right person for this role regardless of your age, nationality, religious beliefs, or gender identification. Your role in our shared journey You’ll be based at our EMEA HQ in Hoofddorp, near Amsterdam, as the Senior Designer, Trail Running in ASICS’s global apparel design team. You’ll help shape one of ASICS’s fastest-growing categories: trail running apparel, from waterproof jackets to shorts built to carry race-day kit, plus outdoor performance wear such as walking jackets, hiking cargo pants and fleeces, made for the mountains and worn in the city. We all pitch in here, so expect varied design work across other apparel areas too. Reporting to our Head of Design, you’ll join a small team of designers and partner closely with development, materials and category teams, our factory partners, and the ASICS-sponsored trail athletes you’ll design with. Your Key Responsibilities Will Be Trail Category Ownership: Own the trail running and outdoor performance apparel range from first concept to commercial launch, delivering against seasonal creative direction and product briefs with ASICS's brand DNA at the heart of every design. Creative Concepts & Storytelling: Bring a strong creative point of view to every season, developing concepts, trend direction, colour and mood boards, and present your design story clearly to category and business partners. Athlete-Led Design: Work directly with our European trail athletes on testing and feedback, turning what you learn on the mountain into better products. Technical Design & Fit: Create your own technical drawings and specification packages, and lead fit sessions where you can see exactly why a garment isn't working and how the pattern needs to change. Materials, Construction & Cost: Choose the right performance fabrics and construction with our materials and development teams, and work with factory partners to hit cost targets, including prototype reviews on site. Collaborations & Special Projects: Support the wider design team on collaborations and special projects as the business grows, and share your expertise with fellow designers. Essential You have the following skills: A creative designer with critical thinking and an independent design mind. You bring ideas, challenge the brief and can explain what makes your design distinctive and how it improves on existing products. Experience leading apparel design projects or collections independently, from concept through to production. You set your own priorities, keep projects moving and take full ownership of your category. Strong technical design skills, including producing your own technical drawings and specification packages using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or similar software/AI. A strong understanding of 3D garment construction, fit and pattern development, with the ability to identify fit issues and work with technical teams to resolve them. Solid knowledge of performance fabrics, garment construction and manufacturing processes. A bachelor's degree in fashion design or a related design field. Nice To Have Ideally, extensive knowledge of trail running and a love of the outdoors. Some of the most creative designers come from other backgrounds, including fashion, so if your design work is strong, we'd still love to hear from you. Experience at an outdoor, mountain or performance sportswear brand. You're a trail runner yourself! Life at ASICS When you join ASICS, you become part of something special. Here, your voice matters, your growth and wellbeing are important. We believe in fostering an environment where every step forward is celebrated, where diversity fuels our journey, and inclusion strengthens individuals. And together and as individuals, we can inspire more people to move for body and for mind.
