Job Description
Ready to design the modular products that bring circular concrete to customers? At everox, we are transforming waste concrete into high-value circular building materials. Our mission is ambitious: reducing the environmental impact of one of the world’s largest industries by creating sustainable alternatives for cement, sand and aggregates. We are a dynamic, diverse and international team located at SubZero, a hub for Greentech start-ups in the Port of Rotterdam. Our ambition is to bring circular concrete materials to market at scale. We are moving from pilot-scale operations towards industrial production. At our test site in Rotterdam we develop and validate our process on small-scale pilots, and our first commercial facility in ’s-Gravendeel is the next major step. Next on the roadmap are a second flagship plant abroad and modular product lines that bring our technology to customers in containerised form. Each of these products needs a robust, repeatable mechanical design, and that is where this role comes in. About The Role As Senior Mechanical Engineer – Modular Products, you own and lead the mechanical engineering of our new containerised product lines. You translate process concepts and vendor information into robust, repeatable mechanical designs, from concept and basic design up to detail design and first delivery. You also support our flagship plants: you engineer modifications on our operating facility in ’s-Gravendeel and review the mechanical engineering of the next flagship plant. Our mechanical team works with clear focus areas: our other Senior Mechanical Engineer is mainly responsible for the flagship plants, and you are mainly responsible for the modular products. Together you coach a Mechanical Engineer who works on projects of both of you. Day to day, the work brings you together with our R&D team at the test site, equipment vendors, external engineering partners and contractors on site. Roughly 60% of the time goes to modular products and prototypes, the other 40% to supporting our flagship plants. The base is our office and test site in Rotterdam, with regular work at our facility in ’s-Gravendeel. International travel is part of the role during engineering reviews, factory acceptance tests, construction and commissioning of new plants. Responsibilities Lead and own the mechanical concept, basic and detail design of our containerised products. Create 3D models, layouts, general arrangement drawings and bills of materials, and delegate modelling and drawing work to the Mechanical Engineer where it makes sense. Select equipment and components based on process requirements and vendor information, and evaluate quotations. Design for repeatability, transport, maintainability and cost. Prepare the machinery risk assessment (EN ISO 12100) and support CE conformity of our products. Build and test prototypes together with our R&D team at the Rotterdam test site. Engineer mechanical modifications on our ’s-Gravendeel facility under management of change (MOC). Review mechanical deliverables of external engineering partners for new flagship plants. Supervise contractors on site and take part in FAT/SAT and commissioning, in the Netherlands and abroad. Develop mechanical design standards for our products, aligned with the standards for our plants. Maintain mechanical documentation, specifications and revision control, and take part in HAZOPs, design reviews and risk assessments. Coach the Mechanical Engineer: give clear modelling and design input, involve them in your projects and review their work. What You Bring We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer who is as comfortable behind a 3D model as next to a prototype on site. Turning a process concept into a product that can be built again and again appeals to you, as does setting the design standards to get there. The work calls for a structured approach and a practical mindset, and the right candidate enjoys helping a less experienced colleague grow. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent). At least 8 years of experience in mechanical design and project execution in an industrial environment. Proven experience designing skid-mounted, modular or containerised equipment, from concept to detail design. Strong skills in 3D parametric CAD (Autodesk Inventor preferred). Solid understanding of material handling, rotating equipment and piping. Experience with machinery risk assessment and CE marking. Experience with modifications on operating plants, including management of change. Fluent English; Dutch language skills are a plus. Willingness to travel. Nice-to-haves Experience with bulk solids handling, such as crushing, milling, screening or conveying. Knowledge of the Pressure Equipment Directive. Experience with pilot or prototype systems. Experience mentoring engineers. What We Offer Competitive compensation based on the market, your experience and qualifications (€75,000-€85,000 gross per year including holiday allowance). Employee ownership through our ESOP and a company pension plan at Zwitserleven. 27 days of annual holiday leave. A one-year contract for 40 hours per week, with the intention to extend to a permanent contract. Training and development, including vendor training where relevant. An impactful position in a fast-growing, mission-driven scale-up. Why join us? Join a diverse team committed to sustainability and making a real impact on CO₂ reduction. Our flat hierarchy gives you ownership of your work and room to grow, and the chance to shape the engineering standards for a company moving from its first plant to multiple plants and products. Ready to design how everox brings circular concrete to customers? We would love to hear from you. Even if you don’t meet every requirement, please apply - your unique background could be exactly what we need.
