Job Description

We are currently looking for an Algorithm Engineer to join the team in Delft. You will be part of the Defence & Security business unit, where we develop innovative solutions using space technologies. Within the domain of Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT), our work includes satellite navigation signal quality monitoring, radio-frequency (RF) interference direction-finding, and antenna array technologies for RF interference mitigation. Our solutions support applications in Defence, Space and Critical Infrastructure. In this role, you will develop and implement algorithms to detect, classify and localize and suppress RF-emitters in challenging environments, and combining sensor outputs in an optimal way. Working in a collaborative team of 10 engineers, you will contribute to signal processing and system-control algorithm development and evaluate their performance using custom or off-the-shelf hardware. You will also carry out testing, verification and validation in laboratory environments and during field operations. This position offers the opportunity to design innovative technical solutions, solve complex engineering challenges and contribute to product development in a dynamic, high-tech organisation. Main responsibilities: Translate end-user needs into measurable technical and performance requirements. Design algorithmic processing architectures that combine stochastic analysis, system identification, optimization and data-driven methods. Develop and implement signal-processing and system-control algorithms. Collaborate with software and hardware engineers to balance detection accuracy, computational performance and other product requirements. Keep up to date with scientific developments and state-of-the-art techniques relevant to the field. Design test benches and define and perform testing, verification and validation activities. Take ownership of technical tasks and lead projects within larger programmes. Requirements: Education: A master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Experience: A good understanding of signal processing, system control and digital communications. Experience in one or more relevant areas, such as RF systems, GNSS and satellite navigation, sensor fusion, system identification, stochastic modelling, constrained optimization (e.g. mixed integer), state-estimation. Experience in data-driven AI modelling is strongly preferred. Knowledge: Programming experience in Python is essential. Experience with Rust, C or C++ is an advantage. Experience: The ability to communicate technical ideas clearly in English, both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of Dutch is an advantage. Interest: An interest in working in the Defence domain and the ability to obtain the required security clearances (Dutch, NATO and EU, as applicable). Important: You do not need to have experience in every technical area listed above. We value the different perspectives and expertise that people bring, whether developed through education, research or practical experience. Privacy Notice: In order to apply for this vacancy, you must submit your personal information to Science [&] Technology. Science [&] Technology will collect, use, and process your personal information as mentioned in our Privacy Policy. Our policy and processing of your personal information are compliant with the GDPR. Please note that if you do not hear back from us within 10 days of your application, you may assume that we have selected another candidate we would like to interview for this position. We do our best to get back to you individually; however, due to a high volume of responses, it may be that we have not been able to reject your application in person. We kindly request that recruitment agencies do not contact us regarding this vacancy. We are not seeking assistance and will not be liable for any fees or charges associated with unsolicited CVs or candidate introductions. Any candidates submitted by agencies without prior written agreement will be considered our direct applicants and may be employed without obligation or fee.

Core Responsibilities

Translate end-user needs into technical requirements, then design and implement signal-processing and system-control algorithms for detecting, classifying, localizing, and suppressing RF emitters and combining sensor outputs. Collaborate with software and hardware engineers, evaluate algorithms using hardware, conduct laboratory and field testing, and take ownership of technical tasks and projects.

Requirements

A master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field is required, or equivalent practical experience. Candidates should understand signal processing, system control, and digital communications; have relevant experience in areas such as RF, GNSS, sensor fusion, or state estimation; and be proficient in Python, with clear English communication skills and the ability to obtain applicable security clearances.
