Job Description

We build and run the ground segment software that keeps satellites in orbit. It is used internally by our operations team to fly missions on behalf of our customers, and is also delivered externally as part of our product portfolio. Our satellite operations are growing in scale and complexity: more satellites, more automation, integration with external ground stations, and increasing cloud and deployment needs. To support this growth, we are looking for a Platform Software Engineer to establish and own the operational foundation for reliable and secure software delivery. This role bridges software engineering and IT operations. You will become the company's domain expert in this field: building best practices, selecting tools, improving automation, and ensuring our systems remain available, observable, maintainable, and secure. Working closely with both the software engineering and IT teams, you will shape how software is deployed and operated across our development and production environments. Specific Tasks And Responsibilities Include Develop and introduce tooling, processes, and alerting solutions that improve the speed, reliability, and maintainability of our software—both applications and infrastructure. Evaluate, maintain, and improve the infrastructure our software runs on. Support other software engineers with deployment pipelines, automation, and operational best practices. Ensure continuous satellite operations by safeguarding the availability of our infrastructure, servers, and networks. Troubleshoot issues across infrastructure, networking, and application layers. Collaborate with the IT team on integrating infrastructure services—certificates, identity providers, cloud services, and virtualization platforms—and on managing server resources and operational security to support current and future application needs. Help shape long-term operational ground software practices, ensuring the organization's future operability. Job Requirements 3–6 years of practical experience in IT infrastructure, platform engineering, systems engineering, or IT operations. Experience managing infrastructure in on-premise and/or hybrid environments, including virtualization. Hands-on experience with containerized workloads (Docker or similar). Experience with version control (Git, self-hosted GitLab) and building/maintaining CI/CD pipelines. Experience implementing monitoring, observability, or operational automation solutions. Comfortable making technical decisions and introducing new tools and processes where appropriate. Strong ownership mindset: independently investigates and solves unfamiliar technical challenges. Thrives in a small team with broad responsibilities and high autonomy; communicates well across software and IT disciplines. Nice to haves Container orchestration (Docker Compose, Docker Swarm, Kubernetes). Web servers and reverse proxies (nginx, Apache, Traefik, Caddy). Message brokers (Kafka, Redpanda, RabbitMQ). Monitoring stacks (Prometheus, Grafana Loki, OpenTelemetry). Identity and access management. Infrastructure-as-code and configuration management. Experience in the space industry, satellite operations, ground segment, or other mission-critical/high-availability environments. Introducing DevOps practices in a scaling organization; security-conscious or regulated environments. Software engineering background (Python, C++, or related).

Core Responsibilities

Build and maintain the infrastructure, tooling, deployment pipelines, monitoring, and automation needed to deliver reliable and secure ground-segment software. Safeguard continuous satellite operations by troubleshooting across infrastructure, networking, and application layers and collaborating with software and IT teams on operational practices.

Requirements

Requires 3–6 years of experience in IT infrastructure, platform or systems engineering, or IT operations, with experience in on-premise or hybrid infrastructure, virtualization, containers, Git, CI/CD, and monitoring or automation. The role also calls for independent problem-solving, technical decision-making, ownership, and effective collaboration across software and IT teams.
