Job Description
What To Expect Start date: January/February 2027 Location: Amsterdam Duration: 6 months Length: Fulltime (40h a week) NOTE: YOU MUST BE ENROLLED IN EDUCATION DURING THE ENTIRE INTERNSHIP TO BE CONSIDERED. Tesla Energy Grid Solutions team is looking for a highly motivated individual who is excited about solving real-life power system issues around renewables integration. As an intern in this position, you will have an opportunity to build RMS/EMT power systems model for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and perform system studies. What You'll Do This position is focused on power systems stability modeling and analysis. The intern is expected to: Demonstrate a solid theoretical background on EMT and dynamic modeling of power systems, renewable energy resources, and converter-interfaced devices Perform dynamics and transient simulations using positive-sequence tools (PSSE, DIgSILENT, or PSLF) and EMT tools (preferably PSCAD) Focus mostly on modeling battery energy storage systems in any of these software utilizing Python interfaces, running simulations, and analyzing the impact of these resources on stability of grids and microgrids What You'll Bring Currently studying in a relevant program such as Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics with a focus on Power and Energy Systems Practical experience with Python and modeling renewables in any positive sequence or EMT tool Must be self-managed and committed to working in a fast-paced environment Prior practical experience in conducting utility transmission interconnection studies for renewable and energy storage projects is a plus Practical experience with protection coordination, cable ampacity, transformer energization, and grounding studied is a plus Practical experience with ETAP and SKM software is a plus Experience with PowerFactory User Written Model is a plus , Tesla
Core Responsibilities
Build RMS/EMT models of battery energy storage systems and conduct power system stability studies. Run dynamic and transient simulations, then analyze how energy storage resources affect grid and microgrid stability.
Requirements
Applicants must remain enrolled in an educational program throughout the internship and be studying a relevant field, such as Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics focused on Power and Energy Systems. They should have a theoretical foundation in power system and converter-interfaced resource modeling, plus practical Python and renewable-energy modeling experience; utility interconnection studies and related power engineering software experience are advantageous.
