Job Description
At S&T we are developing software solutions for clients who operate their own satellite constellations. We are developing a satellite Mission Control System, which can operate multiple satellites from different providers in one single system. With this development we are changing the approach of traditional ground segment solutions by developing a modular, software-first ground segment platform that combines reusable building blocks for mission planning, tasking, satellite operations, monitoring, and data workflows. Our ambition is to create a scalable operational environment that enables efficient management of current and future satellite missions, reduces complexity, and accelerates mission deployment across civil, commercial, and defence applications. Satellite operations are becoming increasingly complex. With more satellites, more diverse missions, and growing demands for automation and operational efficiency, mission operators require ground segment solutions that are flexible, scalable, and easy to adapt. Traditional ground segment solutions are often highly customised for individual missions, limiting scalability and increasing operational complexity. We are currently looking for a Cybersecurity Software Engineer to join our Defence & Security team in Delft! As a Cyber Security Engineer you will work on designing and implementing security for the satellite Mission Control System S&T is developing. Furthermore, you’ll work on security aspects of a European Space-based intelligence platform. From identity management to thinking about encryption of satellite signals to preparing software to be installed in secure environments. You will contribute to systems engineering and security activities for space based intelligence ground segment systems, including the definition and assessment of system security requirements and the integration of security throughout the system lifecycle. You will provide security expertise to the teams during design, development and operational phases. The team is part of the Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (ISR) program, a team of 12 (and growing) enthusiastic and social developers, data scientists and FPGA-engineers. The team develops solutions for Earth Observation data processing, both on-ground or on-board satellites. ISR is part of the Defence & Security unit, where we are working on innovative solutions that leverage space technologies for Defence and Security. Main responsibilities: This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining (defensive) cyber security with modern software development for real-world impact in a highly technical environment. Security design and implementation Design and implement security for the Mission Control System Document in such a way that others can follow your instructions Produce specifications for components, tiers and interfaces, ready for detailed design. Support initiatives with technical plans that apply the agreed design principles. Configure, test and troubleshoot once the Mission Control System is live. Communicate risk to the people who have to decide, and be proactive in finding solutions. Collaborate Across Disciplines Work closely with software engineers, system architects, domain experts, and end-users. Translate operational requirements into scalable and maintainable software solutions. Participate in technical discussions and contribute to system design decisions. Deliver High-Quality Software Develop secure, reliable, and maintainable code. Contribute to software testing, validation, and continuous improvement activities. Support deployment, integration, and lifecycle management of software systems. Contribute to Innovation Explore and implement new technologies, frameworks, and development approaches. Support the development of next-generation ground segment software capabilities. Contribute to proof-of-concepts, demonstrations, and customer-facing projects.
