About Nebul Nebul is building Europe’s Intelligent Cloud: a sovereign cloud and AI infrastructure platform designed for organisations that require performance, control, security and data sovereignty. We develop and operate advanced cloud, Kubernetes and GPU infrastructure across Europe. As our platform continues to grow, we are expanding the engineering capabilities behind our virtualization layer. We are therefore looking for a Virtualization Platform Engineer who combines strong Kubernetes and DevOps expertise with deep knowledge of virtualization technologies. Your Role As a Senior Virtualization Platform Engineer, you will help design, build and operate the virtualization layer within Nebul’s cloud platform. Our current environment uses KubeVirt, while we are developing additional capabilities based on Cloud Hypervisor. You will work at the intersection of Kubernetes, virtual machines, containers and low-level Linux virtualization. This is a hands-on engineering role for a senior DevOps, platform or infrastructure engineer with a strong specialization in virtualization. A deep background in KVM and QEMU is equally relevant, provided you understand—or are ready to work extensively with—Kubernetes-based infrastructure. You will take ownership of complex technical challenges and help define the future architecture of virtualization within Nebul. What You Will Do Design, build and operate Kubernetes-based virtualization solutions Develop, optimize and maintain our KubeVirt environment Contribute to the development and adoption of Cloud Hypervisor Work with KVM, QEMU, microVMs and container-based virtualization Help design and implement confidential-computing capabilities Evaluate and implement technologies such as Kata Containers Automate the deployment, configuration and lifecycle management of virtualized workloads Improve the performance, scalability, reliability and security of our virtualization platform Troubleshoot complex issues across Kubernetes, Linux, networking, storage and virtualization Contribute to architectural decisions and the technical virtualization roadmap Build monitoring, observability and operational tooling for the platform Establish engineering standards and share specialist knowledge across the organisation Work closely with our Kubernetes, cloud, infrastructure and security engineers What We Are Looking For Significant professional experience in DevOps, platform engineering, infrastructure engineering or systems engineering Deep technical knowledge of virtualization concepts and technologies Strong understanding of Kubernetes architecture and operations Hands-on experience with KubeVirt, KVM, QEMU or comparable virtualization technologies Strong Linux systems-engineering and troubleshooting skills Experience with infrastructure automation and Infrastructure as Code Good understanding of networking, storage and security within virtualized environments Experience diagnosing performance, availability and reliability issues at platform level The ability to take ownership of technically complex projects A pragmatic engineering mindset and a willingness to build new capabilities from the ground up Nice to Have Hands-on experience with Cloud Hypervisor Knowledge of confidential computing and hardware-backed isolation Experience with microVM technologies Experience with Kata Containers, Firecracker or similar runtimes Programming or automation experience in Rust, Go or Python Experience building or operating private-cloud, public-cloud or sovereign-cloud platforms Familiarity with OpenStack and cloud-native infrastructure Experience with high-performance computing or GPU infrastructure Knowledge of hardware virtualization, CPU architecture and performance optimization Experience contributing to open-source infrastructure projects What We Offer A key engineering role in building Europe’s sovereign cloud and AI infrastructure The opportunity to shape a technically challenging virtualization platform Significant ownership and influence over technical and architectural decisions A highly experienced and ambitious engineering environment Direct collaboration with Nebul’s engineering leadership and infrastructure teams Competitive compensation A mobility budget A performance bonus and equity participation A hybrid working environment based around our office in Leiden The opportunity to grow with a rapidly scaling European technology company Why Nebul At Nebul, you will help build the technical foundation behind Europe’s Intelligent Cloud. Core Responsibilities

Design, build, and operate Nebul’s Kubernetes-based virtualization platform, including its KubeVirt environment and emerging Cloud Hypervisor capabilities. Improve platform performance, reliability, scalability, and security; troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues; and help shape architecture, operational tooling, and engineering standards.

Requirements

Requires significant experience in DevOps, platform, infrastructure, or systems engineering, with strong virtualization expertise and a solid understanding of Kubernetes operations. Candidates should have hands-on experience with KubeVirt, KVM, QEMU, or comparable technologies, strong Linux troubleshooting skills, and experience with automation and virtualized networking, storage, and security.
