Job Description
How do you make our customers happy? Retail media has developed into one of our primary strategic pillars, and we intend to maximize its potential. The ambitions are clear, and the programs to get us there are in place, but their impact can be amplified by someone who maintains an objective overview and sets the right priorities. As the Head of Project Management & Chief of Staff, you strengthen the do-main’s execution power. You lead the project management team and, as Chief of Staff, work directly alongside the Chief Advertising Officer to make the Advertising MT sharper, more agile, and more results-oriented. In an organization where multiple strategic initiatives always unfold concurrently, and stakeholder interests can collide, you are the great connector and impact driver. The biggest challenge Creating and preserving focus in an organization that wants - and needs - to accelerate on multiple fronts at once. You claim ownership of capacity, priorities, and investments. And you ensure promising plans are executed successfully. That makes for a highly varied role. One day you’re working on a complex transformation program that spans multiple domains. The next, you’re facilitating a critical MT meeting. And on day three, you’re zooming in on evolving our PM capabilities. What you will do as Head of Project Management and Chief of Staff You work in a dual role, with the healthy tension that entails. As the Head of Project Manage-ment, you report to the Director of Operations and Data, and are a member of the Advertising MT. As the Chief of Staff, you work alongside the Chief Advertising Officer. You move between operations and the boardroom, between transformation programs and team building, between hard data and the human side of change leadership. While your contribution is essential in getting projects across the finish line, you don’t zoom in on minutia of individual projects. Your impact is in cultivating focus, alignment, and execution power. That calls for strong leadership, proven strategy execution, and organizational effectiveness. How should we prioritize objectives to maximize our impact with the available capacity? What’s the most cost-effective route? You help the organization make data-driven decisions to set priorities, track progress, and realize value. In short, you understand how to translate an “abstract” strategy into concrete execution steps and can weigh and unite diverging interests -up to the C-suite- without losing focus on the results. Developing project management capability that structurally strengthens the organization Coaching, developing, and inspiring project managers Facilitating complex programs that span multiple domains Facilitating effective MT meetings with clear priorities and ownership Supporting quarterly, annual, and strategic planning cycles Effectively steering decision-making, value realization, and progress Where you'll be working You’ll land at Advertising, one of bol’s most strategically crucial domains. Retail media moves fast: new propositions, new technology, and new ways of working are the rule, not the exception. The setting is ambitious and substantive, with visible impact on how the domain operates, scales, and creates value for 14 million customers, 43,300 partners, and a vast number of advertisers. You report to the Director of Operations and Data and work directly with the Chief Advertising Officer, the MT (welcome aboard), and the project management team. Do you have a strong view on the growth of Advertising, ideally backed by a persuasive track record, and the composure to achieve results in a complex, ambiguous setting? We’d love to meet you. Something for you? Foundation builder: You enjoy structuring teams and ways of working to strengthen the organization. Commitment cultivator: You bring stakeholders with different interests together and find the right path to achieve shared goals. Value realization thinker: You don’t measure success by activity and effort, but by value realization and impact. Nothing for you? Pure project administrator: For you, project management begins and ends with status updates, planning, and reports. Archenemy of ambiguity: You wait for all the information before making decisions or even contemplating a direction. Lone expert: If you want something done right, do it yourself. Letting your success depend on colleagues is unthinkable. We take pride in our B Corp certification and strive for continuous improvement every day. Industry: Retail
Company size: 1,001-5,000 employees
Bol is the largest online retailer in the Netherlands and Belgium. In 1999 we opened our virtual doors as first online bookstore in the Netherlands. Nowadays we’re working with 2.000 colleagues to deliver the best shopping platform ever. To be able to do this we have expanded our shopping platform in the 20 years of our existence. 2010 was the beginning of bol.com in Belgium. The first step towards our southern neighbors. And we opened our shopping platform to other retailers, for our customers to be able to find ‘everything’ on bol.com. Since 2016 it is possible for our partners to advertise via bol.com. And in 2017 Huub Vermeulen opened the doors of our bol fulfilment center. Shortly: together with 2.000 bol.commers we work to make the daily lives of our customer easier.
