Job Description

creative collaborative committed with an affinity for biology and a strong background in software development. As Software Developer Bioinformatics at GenDx, you contribute to our software solutions for transplantation diagnostics. You will participate in the development and maintenance of our HLA typing, chimerism monitoring, and oncology genomic assay tools, while also contributing to the development of software products that support advanced molecular diagnostics. You enjoy translating biological and clinical needs into robust software solutions and are comfortable working in a multidisciplinary environment. You are enthusiastic, creative, accurate, and proactive in your communication. You see challenges rather than problems and resolve complex issues using different approaches. You add value to the R&D Software team and collaborate closely with colleagues working on our diagnostic software portfolio. Responsibilities Design, develop, test, and maintain software components. Collaborate closely with the team, project manager(s), and other relevant stakeholders to translate requirements into robust software solutions. Improve and maintain existing codebases with a focus on quality, performance, and maintainability. Contribute to development best practices (code reviews, testing, clear documentation). Support software used in regulated or quality-sensitive clinical/laboratory environments (data handling, analysis support, reporting, integrations, etc.). Working according to ISO 13485 and IEC62304 standards. Requirements To be successful in this role, you bring at least 3 years of professional software development experience, excluding academic projects and short-term internships, gained in a commercial, scientific, medical, or similarly structured environment. You’re comfortable working independently, taking ownership of your work, and contributing to a collaborative development team. Education: B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Software Engineering, (Bio)informatics or equivalent. Demonstrable experience independently designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining production-quality software. At least 3 years of hands-on professional experience with Java and/or C#. Strong practical knowledge of object-oriented design, clean code, debugging, automated testing, documentation, and software-maintenance practices. Experience with version control (e.g., Git): branching, pull requests, code reviews. Familiarity with modern development practices: writing clean code, debugging, testing and documentation. Experience working in an Agile or multidisciplinary product-development team. Experience in, or strong affinity for, molecular biology, genomics and/or diagnostics. Excellent command of English (written and spoken). You are based within commuting distance of our office at Utrecht Science Park, or are willing to relocate to the area. Please note that you must be legally eligible to live and work in the Netherlands. Unfortunately, sponsorship may not always be possible for this role. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with UML (e.g., designing and/or interpreting software models/diagrams). Experience developing web applications (preferably HTML, Apache Tomcat, and ASP.NET) and Linux-based server management. Proficiency in development using Visual Studio and/or IntelliJ IDEA. Knowledge of molecular techniques (e.g. DNA sequencing and related analyses software). Bioinformatics experience (e.g., biological data handling, pipelines, assay/QC concepts). Familiarity with secure development practices; cybersecurity awareness. Experience working in or alongside regulated/quality-managed environments (documentation, traceability, validation mindset). What We Offer A team of like-minded people who all strive to deliver the highest quality products possible. An international working environment. New office facilities accommodating the GenDx café to enjoy your daily healthy lunch. Competitive salary. Pension scheme. Compensation for commuting traffic. Employment based on a 40 hour work week. Option to work part-time (0.8FTE minimum). Employee Assistance Program (OpenUp). Laptop. 25 holidays and a week paid Christmas leave. Sport pass for Sports Center Olympos. Ready to develop software with real-world impact? At GenDx, your code will do more than power another digital product. It will help laboratories turn complex genomic information into insights that support critical medical decisions. We are looking forward to discovering what you could bring to our team! Apply now via the button below and maybe you will soon be part of the GenDx team.
