Role Description This is a remote contract role for a Lawyer at Earthly Father. The Lawyer will provide legal advice and counsel that aligns with the organization’s values, draft and review contracts and policies, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Day-to-day work includes researching legal issues, preparing opinions and recommendations, and coordinating with internal stakeholders to address risk and support decision-making. The Lawyer may also represent the organization in negotiations, help resolve disputes, and contribute to developing ethical frameworks and guidelines for organizational activities. Qualifications Strong knowledge of contract, corporate, or nonprofit law, with experience interpreting and applying statutes and case law. Proficiency in legal research, writing, and document review, including drafting contracts, policies, and formal legal opinions. Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders and collaborate effectively in a remote setting. Demonstrated commitment to ethical practice, integrity, and fairness, with sensitivity to value-based and faith-informed contexts. Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree and active license to practice law in at least one jurisdiction, in good standing. Prior experience providing counsel to mission-driven or values-based organizations is beneficial. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple matters independently under contract arrangements.

Core Responsibilities

Provide legal advice and counsel, draft and review contracts and policies, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Research legal issues, prepare opinions and recommendations, coordinate with stakeholders on risk and decision-making, support negotiations and dispute resolution, and help develop ethical guidelines.

Requirements

Requires a Juris Doctor or equivalent law degree and an active law license in good standing in at least one jurisdiction. Candidates should have strong knowledge of contract, corporate, or nonprofit law, legal research and writing skills, clear communication abilities, and a demonstrated commitment to ethical practice; experience advising mission-driven organizations is beneficial.
