Job Description

Data Center Infrastructure Engineer Location: North Brabant, Netherlands Work Arrangement: Onsite Engagement Type: Contract About the Role We’re looking for a hands-on Data Center Infrastructure Engineer to support the deployment, maintenance, and day-to-day operation of critical data center infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with technology and solving problems in a physical data center environment. You’ll work with servers, network equipment, fiber and copper cabling, racks, power distribution, hardware assets, and DCIM systems, supporting everything from new deployments and hardware break-fix to cabling, inventory management, equipment moves, and decommissioning. We’re looking for someone who is technically capable, highly organized, dependable, and detail-oriented. You should be comfortable working independently when needed while also collaborating closely with remote engineering teams, vendors, and other technical stakeholders. What You’ll DoData Center Infrastructure & Cabling Trace, document, and maintain fiber and copper cabling infrastructure, including intra-cage and inter-cage connectivity. Rack, cable, and power servers, switches, and other network equipment according to established deployment standards. Install and mount Power Distribution Units (PDUs) and ensure power assignments are accurately tracked. Troubleshoot physical infrastructure issues involving fiber connectivity, optical transceivers, power supplies, and cabling faults. Read and work from rack elevation diagrams, cabling diagrams, and other technical documentation. Hardware Support & Break-Fix Diagnose server hardware issues and perform break-fix activities, including replacement and validation of failed components. Support hardware installations, moves, changes, and equipment refresh activities. Collaborate with server and hardware vendors to coordinate warranty repairs, replacement parts, and maintenance. Decommission retired equipment, including unracking hardware and preparing equipment for IT Asset Disposition (ITAD). Asset & DCIM Management Maintain accurate inventory records for network, server, storage, and related data center equipment. Update DCIM systems with equipment locations, power assignments, and network connectivity information. Perform periodic physical inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies between physical assets and DCIM records. Maintain accurate asset databases, inventory spreadsheets, and supporting documentation. Shipping, Receiving & Equipment Logistics Support shipping and receiving activities for servers, switches, racks, cabling, and related data center equipment. Coordinate equipment movement between storage facilities, data centers, and remote locations. Help ensure equipment is accurately tracked and accounted for throughout its lifecycle. Data Center Operations Follow established data center operational procedures, safety requirements, and change management processes during installation, maintenance, and decommissioning activities. Maintain clear and accurate documentation of equipment changes, infrastructure updates, and completed work. Collaborate with remote teams, vendors, and cross-functional engineering groups to troubleshoot issues and support data center operations. What We’re Looking For Hands-on experience working in a data center, colocation facility, or enterprise IT infrastructure environment. Knowledge of structured cabling systems, including fiber-optic and copper cabling. Experience working with servers, network hardware, racks, PDUs, and other physical data center infrastructure. Hands-on experience with hardware installation, deployment, troubleshooting, and break-fix activities. Familiarity with DCIM platforms and hardware/asset inventory management. Ability to troubleshoot physical connectivity, cabling, transceiver, power, and hardware issues. Ability to read and follow rack elevation diagrams, cabling diagrams, and technical documentation. Strong attention to detail, particularly when documenting assets, cabling, equipment locations, and infrastructure changes. Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to coordinate effectively with remote teams, vendors, and cross-functional technical groups. Work Requirements This is a contract, hands-on onsite position requiring regular presence at the assigned data center facility. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the country where the position is based. Ability to safely lift, move, rack, and install data center equipment as required. Comfortable working within established data center safety, security, access, and change-management procedures. Flexibility to support scheduled infrastructure deployments, maintenance activities, and equipment moves as needed. Ability to communicate effectively in English with local and remote technical teams, vendors, and cross-functional partners. What Will Help You Succeed You’ll thrive in this role if you enjoy being hands-on and close to the technology. You’re methodical when tracing a cable, careful when installing equipment, and persistent when troubleshooting a hardware or connectivity issue. You also understand that strong data center operations depend on more than completing the physical work. Accurate documentation, asset tracking, attention to detail, and communication are equally important. Most importantly, you take ownership of your work and enjoy being part of the team responsible for keeping critical infrastructure organized, maintained, and running smoothly. Why This Opportunity This is an opportunity to gain broad exposure across data center infrastructure and operations while working directly with the technologies that keep complex IT environments running. You’ll contribute across server and network hardware, structured cabling, hardware deployment, break-fix support, power distribution, DCIM, asset management, equipment lifecycle management, and day-to-day data center operations. If you’re technically curious, detail-oriented, and enjoy solving problems in a hands-on infrastructure environment, we’d love to hear from you. ***** GEM Team is committed to providing equal opportunities to all qualified applicants.
