Job Description

Do you have a strong technical foundation in accounting and a clear drive to improve how finance operates? Are you comfortable working hands-on across the detail of the close and reporting cycle, while actively looking for opportunities to innovate and scale through the use of tools and technology? This role is for someone who wants to build deep technical accounting expertise and is motivated to challenge existing processes and help implement better ways of working.

In a fast-paced and performance-driven environment like Optiver, we value people who take ownership, think critically, and raise the bar. If you take a hands-on, solution-oriented approach to developing your accounting judgement, this role will suit you.

What you'll do

The Finance team provides reliable and timely management information that lays the foundation to drive business decisions at Optiver. Our finance professionals work across accounting, financial control, reporting and finance operations, with close collaboration across the wider business. In this role, you will be responsible for executing core accounting, financial reporting, and process improvement, with an explicit expectation to identify and help implement improvements through tooling, data, and AI-enabled workflows.

You will work on:

Month-End close and reporting

  • Own your allocated areas of the monthly close for multiple entities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness, while continually looking for opportunities to automate.
  • Translate business transactions and positions, including trading positions, capex, opex, and intercompany transactions into IFRS-compliant financial reporting
  • Design, build and operate the workflows that deliver this repeatably, driven by IFRS and policy-based configuration and data inputs rather than by manual preparation
  • Prepare and enhance management reporting for your areas and turn the output into clear insight, explaining balance sheet and P&L movements and the drivers behind them
  • Prepare statutory financial statements and audit deliverables, liaising with external auditors as required

Supporting a strong control environment

  • Build controls into the workflows you design rather than adding them afterwards, and support the documentation, testing and ongoing improvement of controls over financial reporting
  • Challenge existing workflows using the tools available, including data platforms, automation and AI agents. Where a step can be automated or handed to an agent, make the case and build it
  • Set a high standard for the quality and consistency of your own work, and review the work of more junior colleagues as you develop

Technical ownership and projects

  • Take end-to-end ownership of allocated technical accounting topics, from accounting treatment through to process design and execution, with guidance from senior team members
  • Contribute to operational and strategic projects, including finance automation initiatives, and take ownership of defined workstreams within them

Who you are

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/RA preferred) with at least 1–2 years of post-qualification experience in corporate accounting
  • A bachelor's or master's degree, preferably in finance or accounting
  • Solid technical foundation in accounting and financial reporting (IFRS), with a clear focus on accuracy, control and quality
  • Genuine interest, and ideally some practical experience, in using tools, data, and AI-assisted workflows to improve process and innovate how work is executed
  • Demonstrate an ownership mindset - you take responsibility for your areas end-to-end and see them through to completion
  • Highly motivated and detail-oriented, able to handle multiple priorities in a complex finance environment
  • Effective communicator with stakeholders and other departments such as Tax and Mid-Office
  • Financial services experience is advantageous
