About Dutch Open Water Foundation
Industry: Civic and Social Organizations
Company size: 11-50 employees
The Dutch Open Water Foundation acts as the connecting link between sport, recreational experiences, and the tangible conservation of open water in the Netherlands. Our mission is clear: we actively raise awareness about improving water quality and protecting our fragile aquatic ecosystems. By organizing annual open-water swimming events, we not only mobilize over a thousand swimmers, but we also generate the essential funding required for relevant, vital conservation projects. We believe that the true power of water can only be understood through personal experience, as reflected in our motto: ‘Nature is experienced in open water!’. Our societal significance lies in coupling sporting challenges with education and awareness. Dutch open water is under pressure from climate change and pollution, directly impacting human well-being, as well as local flora and fauna. The Dutch Open Water Foundation serves as a catalyst for change in this regard; the proceeds from our events are channelled directly back into projects that contribute to a cleaner, more biodiverse aquatic ecosystem. In doing so, we successfully create a platform where participants, partners, and the public collaborate towards a healthy, water-rich future for the Netherlands. By utilizing sport as an instrument for nature conservation, we make abstract environmental challenges tangible for a broad audience. Our summer activities attract open-water swimmers from both at home and abroad who cherish the unique combination of physical exertion and experiencing nature. As a foundation, we strive for a water-positive society in which we not only utilize the natural elements but also actively restore and protect them. Together, we are building a sustainable foundation where sporting achievements and positive ecological impact go hand in hand for the generations to come.
