Job Description

Mechanical design and control engineer Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Full-time. About us Fibre gets cut. Radio frequency (RF) links get jammed. Aircision builds free-space optical (FSO) terminals that carry data through the air on laser beams, over several kilometres. We are a TNO spin-off on the High Tech Campus Eindhoven. With TU/e, we set a record of 5.7 Tbps over 4.6 km in April 2025. Our terminals serve civil and defence users. Role overview A laser link depends on pointing. Masts vibrate, temperatures shift, and two terminals kilometres apart must stay aligned. This role owns that problem. You will work on the control systems and mechanical design of our mast-mounted FSO terminals. You will work alongside our optics, electronics, and embedded software engineers, supported by a project manager, a system architect, and an experienced mechanical engineer. Key responsibilities Design, test, and integrate the control systems behind our FSO terminals, using feedback control, filtering and estimation, and system identification Bring control algorithms into a real-time product with our embedded software team Develop and detail mechanical designs in Autodesk Fusion, integrating printed circuit boards (PCBs), optics, and cabling within thermal, structural, and vibration constraints Validate designs through calculations, simulations, and tests Skills and experience Essential: MSc in control engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or a related field Solid knowledge of control theory Hands-on CAD experience in Autodesk Fusion, SolidWorks, or Inventor, and the ability to read C++ and Python EU or NATO-member country citizenship Desirable: 1 to 2 years of professional experience MATLAB and Simulink Autodesk Fusion specifically Who we are looking for Someone who communicates clearly in English across disciplines, takes initiative, and works well at startup pace. You can start at short notice. How to apply Send your CV and covering letter to [email protected]. Aircision is an equal opportunities employer. We appreciate the interest from recruitment agencies, but we do not accept unsolicited CVs for this role.

Core Responsibilities

Design, test, and integrate control systems for free-space optical terminals, including control algorithms implemented in real-time products. Develop mechanical designs in CAD, integrate electronics and optics, and validate designs through calculations, simulations, and testing.

Requirements

A relevant MSc in control engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or a related field and solid knowledge of control theory are required. Candidates need hands-on CAD experience, the ability to read C++ and Python, and citizenship of an EU or NATO-member country; one to two years of professional experience and MATLAB/Simulink are desirable.
