Job Description

Wren Aerospace is looking for a Cryogenic Hydrogen Tank Design Intern to support the development of a lightweight liquid-hydrogen storage system for our high-endurance aircraft. The project will include: Defining tank and aircraft-integration requirements Comparing tank architectures, materials and insulation concepts Assessing structural loads, thermal performance and hydrogen boil-off Developing a preliminary tank design and supporting analysis Considering mounting, plumbing, safety and aircraft-level integration We are looking for a student in aerospace, mechanical, structural or materials engineering. Experience with structural analysis, thermal modelling, cryogenic systems or pressure vessels would be valuable. Knowledge of composite materials and composite pressure-vessel design is preferred. The placement will be based around our work at ESA BIC Noordwijk, with a hybrid arrangement possible. A duration of approximately five to six months is preferred, and the project may be suitable for a master’s thesis. If you are interested, please apply through LinkedIn or contact us with your CV and a short introduction @ [email protected].

Core Responsibilities

Define tank and aircraft-integration requirements, compare tank architectures, materials, and insulation concepts, and assess structural loads, thermal performance, and hydrogen boil-off. Develop a preliminary liquid-hydrogen tank design and support its analysis, including consideration of mounting, plumbing, safety, and aircraft-level integration.

Requirements

The role is intended for a student in aerospace, mechanical, structural, or materials engineering. Experience with structural analysis, thermal modelling, cryogenic systems, or pressure vessels is valuable, and knowledge of composite materials and composite pressure-vessel design is preferred.

About Wren Aerospace

Industry: Aviation and Aerospace Component Manufacturing

Company size: 2-10 employees

Wren Aerospace B.V. is a Dutch start-up developing patented high-altitude pseudo-satellites (HAPS) - unmanned aircraft designed for advanced connectivity and sensing. Operating autonomously at 20 kilometres in the stratosphere, the Wren HAPS bridges the gap between satellites and conventional unmanned aircraft, delivering resilient high-bandwidth communications and persistent surveillance. Its hydrogen–solar propulsion system supports long-endurance, year-round operation. We work with telecommunications providers, satellite operators, and government users to enable critical services such as disaster-recovery connectivity and persistent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), including rapid restoration of direct-to-device coverage when ground networks fail. Wren Aerospace is incubated at the European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre Noordwijk and co-funded by the European Union.
