Job Description

Please note: We are not able to consider candidates who are not living and working in the Netherlands. At this moment we are not providing relocation sponsorships. Build automation that powers the heart of our customers’ most critical operations. At Schuberg Philis, we specialize in mission‑critical IT, partnering closely with our customers to keep their most essential systems running smoothly and securely with 100% responsibility. Our impact is driven by engineers who are deeply technical, automate everything, collaborate naturally, stay curious, take full end‑to‑end ownership, and understand the full stack - from application to core infrastructure. We’re looking for engineers who flourish in automation‑first, mission‑critical environments and want to shape the platforms our customers rely on daily. In a self‑steering customer team, you design, build, run, and improve business‑critical systems across the full stack. You automate everything you touch, streamline pipelines, solve issues across the stack, and tune applications for performance. Working in a culture of real ownership, deep collaboration, and zero silos, where teams carry full responsibility for mission‑critical systems. / What you will do As a Mission‑Critical Automation Engineer, you design, build, run, and improve platforms. You automate everything you touch, diagnose and resolve issues across the entire stack, collaborate closely with customer teams, and take full end‑to‑end ownership of stability, security, and performance. Your day-to-day includes: Building automation through scripting and configuration management tooling. Owning the full Plan–Build–Run lifecycle. Solving multi‑layer issues across OS, network, DB, security, and apps. Designing and executing controlled releases with Git and pipelines. Platform‑hardening practices. / What you bring A strong automation mindset, with hands-on experience in advanced scripting and configuration management (e.g. Powershell, Ansible, DSC, Puppet, Chef). Hands-on experience with Git and CI/CD practices. Experience applying security principles in mission-critical environments. Proficient in Infrastructure-as-Code tooling such as Terraform, Bicep, or ARM. An ownership mentality, combined with curiosity and analytical thinking to understand and improve system behaviour end-to-end. Understanding of networking, database fundamentals, release/deployment lifecycles, and applications. The following would be a plus: Building and running containerized environments (Docker). Orchestrating platforms using Kubernetes. Operating in public or private cloud environments (Azure, AWS, or similar). / Who are you? An engineer with strong specialization in a core technical domain, combined with a solid understanding of the broader system landscape. Automation-driven, preferring code over manual work. A pragmatic problem solver who collaborates openly. A self-starter who thrives in a high-trust engineering culture. Motivated by complex systems, customer impact, and continuous improvement. / What can you expect? Collaborate with highly skilled engineers who focus on automation, security, and delivering real customer impact. We prioritize quality and ownership over billable hours (“freedom & responsibility”). A culture that supports continuous growth through training, mentoring, and knowledge sharing. High-quality offices, strong tech community involvement, and opportunities to experiment with new technologies. If you’re an engineer in the Netherlands who defaults to automation, enjoys deep technical challenges, and drives real customer impact, we’d like to get in touch!

Core Responsibilities

Design, build, operate, and improve mission-critical platforms across the full stack, taking ownership of their stability, security, and performance. Automate infrastructure and releases, manage the Plan–Build–Run lifecycle, and diagnose issues across operating systems, networks, databases, security, and applications.

Requirements

Candidates should have hands-on experience with advanced scripting, configuration management, Git, CI/CD, and Infrastructure-as-Code tools, along with security experience in mission-critical environments. They should demonstrate end-to-end ownership, analytical problem-solving, and understanding of networking, databases, deployment lifecycles, and applications; container, Kubernetes, and cloud experience are advantageous.

Benefits

  • Training
  • Mentoring
  • Knowledge Sharing

About Schuberg Philis

Industry: Information Technology & Services

Company size: 201-500 employees

Some systems just have to work. They keep power grids stable, logistics moving, payments flowing, and vital public services online. You don’t hear much about them when they work, but when they stop, the impact is immediate, visible, and far-reaching. That’s exactly the kind of work we do. We design, build, and run IT systems that must be reliable, secure, and uncompromising because people depend on them every single day. We call it mission-critical IT. At Schuberg Philis, we go beyond traditional IT services by delivering promised outcomes, not just projects. Our Plan-Build-Run model means the same team takes ownership from start to finish: no handoffs, no middlemen. It’s how we’ve made 100% customer satisfaction not a goal, but a requirement. And it’s why 99.9% of our projects are delivered on time and on budget, helping customers realize solutions that are better, cheaper, and faster. Our engineers bring deep expertise in cloud, data & AI, software, and security, not as abstract offerings, but as the means to solve business-critical challenges. Whether it’s banks handling millions of transactions, logistics firms keeping supply chains running, or energy providers maintaining grid stability, customers trust us when failure is not an option. What sets us apart? - We engineer outcomes, not just deliver technology. - Our autonomous teams carry end-to-end responsibility. - We focus on long-term resilience and impact. This approach has made us the #1 ranked IT company in the Netherlands, according to Whitelane Research. Since 2000, we’ve built enduring partnerships across vital industries, delivering secure, scalable, and seamless solutions that keep society moving. We’re expanding across Europe with one clear mission: to be more than an IT provider. We’re a partner who understands your business inside out, and who is fully invested in your success.
