Job Description

Are you looking for an opportunity to join a meaningful project? To bring your expertise into high-stakes activities that safeguard Europe? To join an international group with a successful track record in delivering Top-Tier Engineering services in Space, Defence and Cybersecurity sectors? We are looking for a Naval or Maritime Senior System Engineer to integrate a brand new team to support the Dutch Ministry of Defence, on Materiel Project, Phases DMP-B and DMP-D. You will be responsible for the overall systems engineering approach, design development, verification and validation activities, and the effective coordination of technical teams and project interfaces. Tasks and activities This isn't a role where you inherit a mature process and keep it running. You'll help the Dutch Ministry of Defence shape how it applies (model-based) systems engineering. Rather than introducing a complete SE framework in one go, the MOD is taking a pragmatic, phased approach: start where targeted improvements deliver the most value, then build towards a mature MBSE practice step by step. You'll play a key role in setting those priorities and guiding the organisation along the way. Depending on the engineering phase of the project, you will: Turn operational needs into engineering requirements. Work with the MOD's engineering teams to translate key-user requirements into clear functional requirements, with every requirement traceable to the design decisions behind it. At a later stage, guide the system requirements engineering process together with the MOD's subcontractors. Build the ship's functional backbone. Define the functional breakdown of a naval vessel in a system model, based on its system breakdown structure. The model records which design decisions led to which derived requirements, so it becomes the single source of truth for traceability. Own the verification strategy. Shape the project's verification framework, and support and coordinate verification activities towards and at every review gate across the engineering phases. Be the bridge between the MOD and industry. Support the MOD in agreeing systems engineering processes with its subcontractors: explain what the MOD needs from them, why it matters and how it fits into the bigger picture. Drive the change. Assess current practices and find where the quickest, highest-impact improvements are. Then help the engineering teams adopt better SE practices step by step, so that the improvements stick in how the organisation works. Skills and experience The following skills and experience are mandatory: Technical academic degree (WO/Master’s level) in Maritime/Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline, or equivalent qualifications and experience. Additional training or certification in Systems Engineering. At least 7 years of experience in systems engineering and the design, development and integration of complex systems. Proficient in PDM or PLM, like Siemens Teamcenter; in MBSE tools (like Capello, Cameo or Enterprise Architect) and interdisciplinary collaboration. Experience using Requirements Management tools, like IBM Doors. Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment. Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill. Fluent in English and Dutch, mandatorily, both written and spoken. Why should you apply? You will have the opportunity to join a Top-Tier Engineering service delivery company present all over Europe, counting a vast variety of exciting projects within a strong client portfolio in niche sectors like Space, Defence, Cybersecurity, Science, etc. We encourage everyone to think outside the box and to push the boundaries of traditional knowledge. This role is an opportunity to join a forward-thinking company and allows for a deeper understanding of the industry. To be part of a company that values integrity, inspiration, care and collaboration. Benefits include: competitive remuneration packages, unique career opportunities, internal career development, including working in other countries, access to training and development programmes, flexible relocation support, etc. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer, committed to achieving diversity within the workforce and creating an inclusive working environment. We therefore welcome applications from all candidates, irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religious beliefs, age, disability or other characteristics. As part of our commitment to providing an inclusive and barrier-free recruitment process, we will provide reasonable adjustments and support to ensure neuro-diverse applicants or those with a disability or long-term condition can be their best during the recruitment process.

Core Responsibilities

Develop and coordinate the systems engineering approach for a naval vessel project, including requirements translation and traceability, functional modeling, and verification and validation across project review gates. Work with the Dutch Ministry of Defence and its subcontractors to improve systems engineering practices and guide the phased adoption of model-based systems engineering.

Requirements

Requires a technical academic degree at WO/Master’s level or equivalent, additional systems engineering training or certification, and at least seven years of experience in systems engineering and complex-system design, development, and integration. Candidates must be proficient with PDM/PLM, MBSE, and requirements management tools, and fluent in written and spoken English and Dutch.

Benefits

  • Competitive Remuneration
  • Career Development Opportunities
  • International Career Opportunities
  • Training and Development Programs
  • Relocation Support
