At Peaks we're looking for a Medior Legal & Compliance to join our team. The big picture At Peaks we build financial products people can trust: simple, transparent and accessible. As Peaks grows, so do the regulatory and legal demands that come with it. That’s why we’re looking for a Legal & Compliance Officer who is at home in both worlds. Most of your time goes to compliance. You’ll be an active part of our compliance team, working on integrity and business risk assessments (SIRA/BRA), internal and supervisory reporting, and regulations such as MiFID II and DORA. Alongside that, you’ll become our first in-house lawyer. Until now we’ve relied mostly on external counsel. You’ll take over a large part of that work, from contracts to legal memos, and turn it into practical advice the business can act on. About You You’re a lawyer with a background in both contract law and regulatory compliance, ideally gained at or for an investment firm or other financial institution. That combination is what makes you stand out. You know how the financial sector works and what supervisors expect. You enjoy the substance of the law, but what really sets you apart is your ability to translate it into practice. You don’t stop at the legal analysis; you answer the “so what?” question. What does this mean for our product, our customers or our next step? Your advice is clear, practical and ready to act on. You think creatively and look for what is possible instead of what isn't. When the business comes to you with an idea, you look for ways to make it work within the rules, not reasons to say no. You see regulation as part of building something sustainable, and you know how to spot risks without slowing the business down. You enjoy helping teams understand legal and compliance requirements, and you take ownership of making them work in day-to-day practice. What You’ll Be Doing You’ll be a key part of the Risk & Compliance team, supporting both the Head of R&C and the business teams. Roughly 40% of your time goes to legal work and 60% to compliance. In practice the two overlap all the time, and that mix is what makes the role interesting. Legal: you'll be the go-to person for legal questions Advise the business on legal questions about new products, features and partnerships; Draft, review and negotiate contracts: partners, suppliers, outsourcing, NDAs, and more; Own and update our customer terms and conditions and other client-facing legal documentation; Analyse legislation and legal texts, and turn them into clear, practical memos, and advice; Person of contact for external counsel. Compliance: you'll keep Peaks in control Run impact assessments and gap analyses on new and changing regulation (e.g. MiFID II, AML/KYC, DORA, PSD2); Advise on the compliance of our customer communications and information provision; Carry out compliance monitoring and help develop and maintain policies, procedures and controls; Support regulatory reporting, internal reviews and interactions with supervisors (AFM, DNB); Help build legal and compliance thinking into product development and daily operations. What We’re Looking For You’re curious, organized, and eager to grow. You have: A degree in Dutch law (or equivalent); At least 3 years of experience in contract law, at a law firm, in-house, or both; At least 2 years experience with financial regulation and compliance (Wft, MiFID II, AML/Wwft, GDPR), ideally at or for an investment firm or fintech; Strong drafting skills, and the ability to explain complex legal matters clearly and practically; A ‘getting things done’-mentality and the persistence to follow through; Looking for opportunities instead of objections; Excellent verbal and written skills in both Dutch and English. Core Responsibilities

Provide practical legal advice on products, partnerships, contracts, customer terms, and other legal matters, while serving as the main contact for external counsel. Support compliance through regulatory impact assessments, monitoring, policy and control development, reporting, and engagement with supervisors.

Requirements

Applicants need a degree in Dutch law or an equivalent qualification, at least three years of contract law experience, and at least two years of experience with financial regulation and compliance. They should have strong drafting and communication skills in Dutch and English, understand financial-sector regulation, and be able to turn legal requirements into practical business advice.
