Job Description
Role
We are seeking a Cleanliness & Contamination Control Engineer to strengthen our Research & Development and production teams. In this role, you will be responsible for defining, implementing and maintaining cleanliness standards, contamination control strategies across our cleanroom environments and semiconductor assembly processes. You will ensure that our systems, modules and components meet the stringent cleanliness requirements of the semiconductor industry from incoming goods inspection through final assembly and testing.
Settels Savenije operates ISO Class 5–8 cleanrooms for the assembly, testing and qualification of complex semiconductor systems. Your expertise in residual gas analysis, cleanroom procedures and contamination management will be critical to delivering products that meet the reliability and performance expectations of our international OEM clients.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain contamination control strategies for cleanroom operations, covering particulates, airborne molecular contamination (AMC), metal ions, electrostatic discharge (ESD) and chemical residues
Perform and interpret residual gas analysis (RGA) measurements to qualify the cleanliness of vacuum components, assemblies and packaging materials, including screening for volatile organic species and moisture content
Define and document cleaning procedures for semiconductor-grade components including solvent cleaning, ultrasonic cleaning, plasma cleaning, and vacuum baking protocols
Establish gowning protocols, cleanroom behaviour training and behavioural compliance audits in line with ISO 14644 standards
Conduct cleanliness qualification of incoming components and materials including particle measurement (DPC/CPC), outgassing analysis and surface contamination inspection
Collaborate with procurement, production engineering and quality assurance to embed cleanliness requirements into supplier specifications and incoming inspection workflows
Monitor cleanroom environmental parameters (particle counts, temperature, humidity, differential pressure, AMC levels) and drive corrective actions upon excursions
Support internal and external audits related to cleanliness and contamination control
Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or a related field
Minimum 3 years of experience in cleanroom operations, contamination control or vacuum cleanliness for semiconductor or high-tech equipment
Hands-on experience with residual gas analysis (RGA) instrumentation and interpretation of mass spectra
Working knowledge of ISO 14644 cleanroom classification standards and contamination control methodologies
Familiarity with cleanroom cleaning procedures, gowning protocols and particle measurement techniques
Understanding of semiconductor contamination sources (particulates, AMC, metallic contamination, ESD) and their impact on device yield and system reliability
Strong documentation skills and experience with cleanliness qualification standards (e.g. ASML GSA 07 2221 or equivalent)
Structured, detail-oriented mindset with the ability to train and coach operators and technicians
What we offer
A key role in maintaining the cleanliness standards that underpin our semiconductor systems
Access to ISO 5–8 cleanrooms and state-of-the-art measurement equipment (RGA, particle counters, microscopy)
Competitive salary in the range of € 6.000 – € 8.000, depending on experience
A collaborative environment where personal development is a priority
Collaboration with international OEM clients at the forefront of semiconductor technology
