Job Description

Company Description NightGuides is a queer-led awareness initiative focused on making nightlife in the Netherlands safer for everyone. Since 2023, the organization’s freelance awareness teams have worked directly on the floor at clubs and festivals, supporting guests and venue staff when issues such as harassment, discrimination, substance-related incidents, or difficult experiences occur. Between 2023 and October 2026, NightGuides assisted with 1,261 cases across 233 events, with about half involving serious concerns like sexual assault or discrimination. Venues, security teams, and first-aid professionals rely on NightGuides for a professional, non-judgmental approach and clear after-event reporting. In 2025, NightGuides became Stichting NightGuides, strengthening the sustainability and accountability of its mission. Role Description The Floor Guide is a part-time, on-site role based mostly in Amsterdam, working directly at nightlife venues and events. In this role, you will be present on the floor to monitor the atmosphere, identify risks, and act quickly when guests experience harassment, discrimination, substance-related issues, or other safety concerns. You will provide calm, trauma-informed support to guests, coordinate with venue staff, security, and first-aid teams, and help de-escalate conflicts in a respectful and non-judgmental way. Day-to-day tasks include engaging proactively with guests, documenting incidents, contributing to after-event reports, and following established protocols to ensure safety and accountability. You will also participate in training sessions, team briefings, and debriefs to continually improve awareness practices and support your own well-being. Qualifications Ability to provide empathetic, non-judgmental support to guests in distress, including strong listening skills and emotional resilience. Experience in de-escalation, conflict resolution, or crisis intervention in nightlife, events, social work, or similar settings. Capacity to collaborate effectively with venue staff, security, and first-aid teams, maintaining clear and respectful communication. Strong observational skills and situational awareness to identify risks and intervene early while maintaining a visible, approachable presence on the floor. Comfort working late nights and weekends in busy, loud environments, with the ability to stay calm and focused under pressure. Proficiency in English; Dutch language skills or additional languages commonly spoken in Amsterdam nightlife are an advantage. Understanding of issues related to harassment, discrimination, LGBTQIA+ communities, consent, and substance use; prior training in these areas is a plus. Reliability in following protocols, documenting incidents accurately, and contributing to after-event reporting. Willingness to participate in ongoing training, supervision, and peer support to ensure safe and sustainable practice.

Core Responsibilities

Monitor the atmosphere at nightlife venues and events, identify safety risks, and provide calm, trauma-informed support to guests experiencing harassment, discrimination, substance-related issues, or other concerns. Coordinate with venue staff, security, and first-aid teams; de-escalate conflicts; document incidents; and contribute to reports, briefings, training, and debriefs.

Requirements

Candidates should have strong listening skills, emotional resilience, situational awareness, and experience with de-escalation, conflict resolution, or crisis intervention. They must communicate respectfully with event teams, be comfortable working late nights and weekends in busy environments, follow protocols, and be proficient in English; Dutch or other relevant languages and training in related topics are advantageous.

About NightGuides

Industry: Civic and Social Organizations

Company size: 11-50 employees

NightGuides is a queer-led awareness initiative working to make nightlife in the Netherlands safer. Since 2023, our freelance awareness teams have worked the floor at clubs and festivals, helping guests and supporting venue staff when something goes wrong: harassment, bad trips, discrimination and everything in between. From 2023 to October 2026, we assisted with 1,261 cases across 233 events. On average we handle 5.5 cases a night, and half of them are serious: harassment, sexual assault, substance use or discrimination. Venues, security teams and first-aid officials trust us for a professional, non-judgmental approach. We take care of the scheduling, training, transport and staffing, so you only need to read our after-event report. In 2025 we became Stichting NightGuides to make this work sustainable and accountable. Want an awareness team at your event or venue? Get in touch through the button above.
