Portfolio Manager, Energy Attribute Certificates (GOO, I-REC & REC)
Key Skills
Job Description
Sentinel Earth is a Swiss climate project developer and environmental commodities intermediary, based in Lausanne. We are now starting an energy attribute certificate desk covering Guarantees of Origin, RECs, I-RECs and biomethane certificates, and we are looking for the person who will build it with us. To be clear about the starting point: the portfolio today is small. We have a first set of certificates, a network of producers and buyers through our carbon and energy work, and the support of the founders. What we need is someone who can turn that into a functioning desk, with their own clients, processes and market choices. What you would be working on Setting up the desk: deciding which markets and technologies to start with, opening registry accounts, and putting the contracts and processes in place. Originating supply from renewable power producers and biomethane facilities, and building a portfolio that grows over time. Finding and developing buyers, including corporates working on their Scope 2 reporting, utilities and traders, and structuring the first spot, forward and multi-year deals. Building a view on prices and market developments, and shaping the desk’s commercial strategy with the founders. Helping define the tools the desk will need, such as certificate tracking and client reporting. Bringing in the right people or partners as the activity grows. What we are looking for Around five years of experience with energy attribute certificates, in portfolio management, origination or account management, with a good understanding of both producers and buyers. Solid knowledge of GO, REC and I-REC markets. Experience with biomethane certificates or PPAs is a plus. A network you can build on, and the drive to grow a business from a small base rather than manage an established one. Comfort with both the commercial side (clients, negotiations, pricing) and the operational side (registries, contracts, reporting). An autonomous way of working that suits a remote setup and a young company. Fluent English. French, German or Spanish would be helpful. What we offer The chance to build a desk from the ground up, with real ownership of its direction and results. Close work with the founders and a short path from idea to decision. Fully remote work, with occasional travel and time with the team in Lausanne. Compensation discussed openly, including a variable part linked to the desk’s development. If building something like this appeals to you, we would be glad to hear from you. A short note on how you would approach the first months is welcome alongside your profile.
Core Responsibilities
Build and develop an energy attribute certificate desk by selecting target markets, establishing registry accounts and processes, originating supply, and developing buyers and commercial deals. Analyze prices and market developments, shape the desk’s strategy with the founders, define tracking and reporting tools, and expand the team or partner network as activity grows.
Requirements
Candidates should have around five years of experience in energy attribute certificates through portfolio management, origination, or account management, with solid knowledge of GO, REC, and I-REC markets and an understanding of both producers and buyers. They should bring a relevant network, commercial and operational capabilities, and the autonomy to build a business from a small base; biomethane certificate or PPA experience is a plus, and fluent English is required.
