Job Description

Company Description Amsterdam Fashion Academy is an international private fashion academy in Amsterdam, offering a highly personalized, student-centered learning environment with a strong focus on graduate employability. Its programmes are validated by Coventry University (UK), enabling students to earn internationally recognized degrees. The academy delivers Fashion with Textiles Design and Fashion Business Bachelor Honours degree courses, as well as a Fashion Foundation Year. In addition, it offers part-time and short courses that support diverse professional pathways in the global fashion industry. Role Description The Part-time Lecturer in Fashion Retail Management will teach undergraduate modules related to fashion retail operations, merchandising, consumer behavior, and contemporary retail practices. Responsibilities include preparing and delivering engaging lectures, seminars, and workshops; developing and updating course materials; and designing assessments that align with programme learning outcomes. The lecturer will provide academic guidance, mentorship, and feedback to students, while contributing to curriculum development that reflects current industry trends. The role also involves collaborating with colleagues, participating in academic meetings, and supporting quality assurance processes. This is a part-time on-site role based at Amsterdam Fashion Academy in Amsterdam. Qualifications Strong expertise in fashion retail management, including retail operations, merchandising, buying, and customer experience. Demonstrated teaching, training, or facilitation skills, with the ability to deliver clear, engaging, and inclusive learning experiences. Experience in curriculum design, lesson planning, and assessment development within higher education or professional training. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills, with a supportive and student-centered approach. Relevant academic qualification in Fashion Business, Retail Management, Marketing, or a related field; advanced degree is an advantage. Professional experience in the fashion or retail industry, preferably in international or multi-brand contexts. Ability to work collaboratively in a small academic team and to contribute to programme development and continuous improvement. High level of English proficiency; additional language skills and familiarity with the Dutch fashion market are beneficial.

Core Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate fashion retail modules through lectures, seminars, and workshops, and develop course materials and assessments aligned with programme outcomes. Mentor and assess students, contribute to curriculum development and quality assurance, and collaborate with academic colleagues.

Requirements

Candidates should have expertise in fashion retail management and experience in the fashion or retail industry, along with teaching or facilitation skills and experience developing curricula and assessments. A relevant qualification in Fashion Business, Retail Management, Marketing, or a related field is required; an advanced degree is an advantage, as are additional languages and familiarity with the Dutch fashion market.
