Job Description

THE POSITION As a 2nd Engineer, you are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the technical installations during your watch. You ensure that all technical installations and systems function according to operational requirements, procedures, and regulations. You plan and execute maintenance and contribute to the operational readiness of the vessel. Working closely with your team and Chief Engineer, you will gain valuable experience in internationally operating dredging vessels while further developing your professional and leadership skills. YOUR IMPACT As a 2nd Engineer, you contribute to safe and efficient operations by proactively identifying technical and safety risks and resolving issues before they affect the vessel's performance. Through diagnostics, maintenance planning, and coordination with other teams, you help maintain compliance with safety, environmental and statutory requirements. Your responsibilities include Manage the main technical installations during your watch and supervise your team on duty; Plan, delegate and monitor corrective and preventive maintenance, ensuring it is executed safely and on schedule; Perform system diagnostics and troubleshooting, and guide less experienced colleagues in solving technical problems on board; Coordinate maintenance work with the nautical and operational teams; Coach and support less experienced crew and set the standard for a safe working environment on board. In addition, you have A degree in Maritime Engineering; A minimum of 3 years' experience as 2nd Engineer on dredging vessels; A valid 2nd Engineer of the Watch Certificate of Competency (OOW Unlimited); Valid STCW certification and seagoing documents, and a valid seafarer's medical certificate; Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written. Core Responsibilities

Manage the vessel’s technical installations during the watch, supervise the duty team, and plan and oversee safe, timely preventive and corrective maintenance. Diagnose and resolve technical issues, coordinate work with nautical and operational teams, and support crew development and a safe working environment.

Requirements

A degree in Maritime Engineering and at least three years of experience as a 2nd Engineer on dredging vessels are required. Applicants must hold a valid 2nd Engineer of the Watch Certificate of Competency (OOW Unlimited), valid STCW certification and seagoing documents, a valid seafarer’s medical certificate, and strong written and spoken English.
