Job Description

(Senior) Quantitative Consultant – Finance & AI State-of-the-art quantitative techniques. Made practical. The most interesting questions at banks, insurers and pension funds rarely stay within one area of expertise. A new ALM or pricing model needs the mathematics, the code and a feel for the organisation. Where traditional advice stops at a thick report, our work begins. We are looking for a versatile quant: someone with the mathematical depth to get to the bottom of any problem, the programming skills to leave a working solution behind, and the ability to clearly communicate the impact to senior management. Who we are Risk at Work is a boutique quantitative consultancy for leading financial institutions in the Netherlands. Since 2011, our team has been solving some of their toughest problems. Several of our partners hold a PhD and still enjoy teaching at university. That academic sharpness is our foundation, but our culture is down to earth: we enjoy making the complex simple. We work in small, senior teams, with partners and consultants building side by side with the client. Clients call us when a problem truly needs to be cracked, and the solution has to hold up in production. We hold AI to the same standard. We let AI tools do much of the heavy lifting, but we have built quantitative models by hand for years, so we can tell when their output is right and when it only looks right. That combination lets our small teams operate at the scale of much larger ones, and it is exactly how we help clients put AI to work in practice. What you will work on Quantitative finance: designing, calculating and optimising models for valuation, balance sheet management (ALM), market risk, both from a methodology and implementation perspective. Actuarial innovation: modernising actuarial calculation engines, cash flow projections, and dynamic pricing and portfolio models. Data science & machine learning: developing robust models, from forecasting to classification, that work on real-world data and improve business decisions. Applied AI: helping clients put AI agents to work, with careful planning, the right context and independent review, so the output can be relied on. From whiteboard to working code: you program, test and implement your models, so the client’s team can build on them straight away. Who you are A Master’s or PhD in a quantitative field such as econometrics, actuarial science or mathematics. We care more about how quickly you master new problems and how well you deliver than about the number of years on your CV. You turn models into clean, reproducible code, mainly in Python (SQL and C# are a plus). You use version control and testing, or you are eager to master these skills. You are curious beyond your own specialism and pick up new areas quickly, whether that is a bank's balance sheet or an AI workflow for an insurer. You use AI agents in your work, or are keen to learn, and you review their output before anyone relies on it. You enjoy working closely with clients and can explain complex work in plain terms. Fluent English; Dutch is a plus, not a requirement. What we offer Ownership from day one: you take on our clients’ real business problems, backed by the partners and without layers of middle management in between. True variety: you work across banks, insurers and pension funds, moving fluidly between ALM, actuarial modelling and AI, instead of being locked into a narrow sub-domain. Room to grow: a clear path towards leading projects and client relationships, with time and budget for courses and conferences, and the chance to write professional articles with the partners. Modern engineering: the latest AI agents and a good development environment, so you spend your time solving actual problems instead of repetitive tasks. Excellent salary: with a bonus linked to your contribution. Flexibility: flexible hours and hybrid working. Get in touch Interested? Send your CV or LinkedIn profile to [email protected]. If you have a GitHub repo, thesis or paper you are proud of, include a link. Prefer to ask a question first? Feel free to message Alexander van Haastrecht or Richard Plat. We would be happy to meet you for a cup of coffee!
